"What do you want to do after all of this is over?" Corbin voiced on the grass next to me his arm sat on his head as he lay next to me. "After all of what?"
We've been asking questions about each other. More like he's been asking me questions. "After school, what's your plans in life" he says attentively awaiting my answer.
"I want to be a writer." I simply answer. I don't know much about my plans after school just that I want to show the world more than what meets the eyes with just my words.
"You write?" His eyes light up. "Yes I do" Only Raven has seen my pages, she swears I'm like Emily Brontë or something.
"Can I read some?" His words come out as more of an answer than a question. "I'll think about it, what are your plans after school?" I return the question putting the attention off of myself.
"Well, I don't know, when I was younger I wanted to be a chief. I love food if you haven't noticed."
He rolls onto his back, clearly sifting through his mind. "But who knows". I can definitely see him owning a place like Margot's one day.
Though he'd need someone to deal with the people, his horrendous attitude would make customers run away.
"I think you'd make a hot chief" I roll towards him crossing my arms on his chest. "Yeah, yeah. My turn to ask questions" his lips turn into a beautiful grin.
We sit like this and ask questions for a while before we realize it's gotten dark. "We should head back" he sounds under me.
"I guess" I don't want to go back there. Not now. We've had the best day and I don't want it to end yet. But he moves to get up and I have no choice but to follow.
As I trudge behind him I realize I can't see a thing but his figure. I remember there's a huge tree root here somewhere. I look down and back up. "Shit" I remembered too late, my butt falls to the ground and my leg sits beneath me.
"Jeez nerd, still just as clumsy as the day I met you" Corbin appears in front of me pulling me back to my feet. "I think I broke my leg" It hurts like hell, if it's not broken it's sure to leave a huge bruise.
He scoops me up and carry's me the rest of the way. Such a gentleman. "If it's broken will you carry me to all of my classes tomorrow?" I joke. "I sure as hell will" Not even a small amount of sarcasm comes from him.
He places me on my feet. I fall into my seat ready to be in bed now, with my foot dramatically propped up on a pillow. "Let me see" Corbin moves his hand toward my leg turning on the car lights.
I slowly move my leg into the light. I'm bleeding. He inspects me and then reaches his hand into the glove box. "Come closer" he has sanitizer in one hand and a napkin in the other. This is going to hurt like hell.
I prop my leg on him and he holds it steady. Opening the sanitizer he gets straight to it. Not even counting down from 3. "Fuck" I groan out. And he stops abruptly.
"I never thought I'd hear that come from your lips" he snickers. "It hurts Corbin" I retort. "Well, you just fell in the middle of the woods, either we clean it or I chop off your leg" sanitizer is still in hand waiting for my answer.
"Just do it" I close my eyes looking away. He places a little more before wiping it with the napkin. "All done, you did so well" he praises me and my heart jumps. "Thanks" I send him a smile.
"It's going to cost you" he says tapping his finger to his cheek. I lean in giving him a peck. "Let's get you back to the house so we can actually clean it, yeah?" he states pulling out and back onto the road.
I lean my head against the window admiring my view. This place is so pretty even when it's dark. The tree line is filled with lightning bugs carelessly flying through them.
We listen to music the whole way. I'm assuming he's just as tired as I am. His brain must be exhausted from listening to every answer I gave to his questions. He's such a great listener.
We pull into Raven's driveway, I look down at the clock on the dash "10:47" it reads. Walking into the house I faintly hear the sound of guns going off. They must be playing video games. As always.
"I'm going to go get some peroxide and a bandaid. Wait upstairs for me?" Corbin asks leaning against the wall below the stairs. "I guess I could do that" I respond with my usual wittiness.
I walk past Raven's room. "Are you staying tonight?" Her voice sounds from her bed. "Yes, if that's okay" I know she won't care but I always like to make sure. "You're always welcome here, move in if you'd like. Wouldn't bother me" she says with a laugh.
I open the door to the guest bathroom. Turning on the light I take a seat on the toilet. Now that I can actually see I inspect the cute myself. It's not bad. It's like a deep paper cut.
Corbin walks in rubbing alcohol in one hand and a bandaid in the other. Great. "You really like hurting me today huh" I joke with a laugh. "I would never intentionally hurt you." He sounds very serious and stern.
He places a towel under my leg to catch the alcohol from falling to the floor. Kneeling on one knee, He lifts his hand to mine allowing me to cause him pain too. He tilts the bottle pouring until he's satisfied. I squeeze his hand with every bit of strength I have.
"Christ Kat, can you squeeze any harder? It's over now" his hand still in mine as he places the band-aid on with one hand. "Thank you" I purr pecking his cheek like I did before.
"Oh no, this one is gonna cost you a little more" he grins and I know exactly what he wants. I lean in placing a kiss on his lips. It lasts just long enough to make my face red and we pull away.
"Are you staying here too?" I question. I had the best night's sleep wrapped in his arms. When I woke up and he wasn't there I thought it was a dream. Then he came back and rolled me back into his warm arms.
"Are you?" He says while cleaning up the wrappers and towel. "Yep" we have school tomorrow and I'm sure we will carpool. I hate carpooling with all the boys too. It's my quiet time and their energy is at 10, in the morning.
"Then yes" he moves to the door his hand on the light switch waiting for me to exit. "Yay, sleepover!" He makes me feel like a giddy little girl. Yuck. But also I'm really happy he's staying.
