"Hey, Gabe," I said as I called Gabe's attention, then I subtly motioned towards the blonde bombshell. "So, uh...who's she?"
"Why?" Gabe asked, looking at me like I was some sort of weirdo who asks questions out of left field. Which I'm not.
"Oh, you know," I said trying to seem cool like a fool in a swimming pool. "Cuz I know most of the peeps here, but she's-"
"Dorkwinkle, you're not fooling me," he said as he rolled his eyes. "She's way outta your league, so give it up. And FYI, you ain't the only one here who wants to bone her."
"Woah woah woah," I said as I raised my hands. "I ain't like that, G. I'm just-"
"Horny as ducks and touch starved to the point you'll simp for a thirst trap," Gabe said with a smirk.
"OK, when have I ever simped?" I asked. For those not in the know, to simp basically means you humiliate yourself and turn into a sucker who goes above and beyond for someone who won't give you the time of day. That ain't me and it's never been me.
"Hoo boy, you asked for it," Gabe said, taking a deep breath. "Tenth grade, Jackie Andrews. You'd carry her books for her every day, do her homework for her, and one time she asked you to help her clean her room so she could sneak her boyfriend in for a night of sex."
"Oh come on, I was fifteen!" I protested. "I learned!"
"Senior year of high school, you fell in love with Andrea DuMont," Gabe continued. "She pretty much told you to your face that she was only keeping you around as the Ugly Friend that makes her look gorgeous in comparison. You STILL clung to her like a puppy!"
"I-I thought she'd change her mind once she saw me for who I was," I protested. "I mean-"
"One time she had you accompany her to a party down the local frat house," Gabe continued. "You waited for her outside for TEN HOURS while she cheated on her boyfriend with a bunch of college guys!"
"That was..." I wanted to protest, but Gabe was right; that night was one of the worst of my life. I really liked her; I thought she was different.
"College, junior year," Gabe continued, crossing his arms. "Sally Mack. You were so in love with her you'd buy her whatever she wanted with the money your dad gave you every week. One day she asks you to meet her over at the cafe close to closing hours. Remember what she said to you that night?"
"Please stop," I said, starting to hyperventilate.
"'I like you, but I think you and me just don't mix'," he said, seething. "I still remember how much you cried to me when she said that; and I still remember all those times I BEGGED of you, BEGGED, to just leave her! What did it take for you to get a clue that she never cared about you?"
I was stunned, tears forming in my eyes. He just HAD to bring that up, didn't he?
"She ghosted you," Gabe bitterly said. "Asked you out, never showed. Why don't you get a clue, Daisy? You're still that simp from back then. Spare yourself the agony and forget about this chick; the competition's too fierce, anyway."
He subtly nodded towards the girl again; she was surrounded by guys. I could tell they were all trying to talk to her, get her attention, maybe even her number. I sighed; Gabe was right. I'd just end up simping for her, anyway.
"She's a thirst trap," Gabe added. "Just one of those fake gamer girls. Not at all worth your time."
"Well, fork my life," I said in a whisper, but I think Gabe heard me anyway...
One hour later, it was tournament time! My first opponent? My little rival, High School himself!
"I Special Summon Unknown Synchron!" I said as I put my Monster Card onto the table. "Then I Normal Summon Red Gadget! I pull a Yellow Gadget from my Deck, and I Synchro Summon Ally of Justice Catastor in Attack Mode!"
"What the hell!?" High School shouted, his face all red and his neck having veins popping out. "THAT'S NOT FAIR, YOUR DECK COUNTERS MINE!!!"
"Dude, EVERY deck counters yours!" I said as I stuck out my tongue. "So, Catastor attacks your Blue Eyes White Dragon! Thanks to its special ability, your Blue Eyes gets destroyed BEFORE the Damage Step!"
"GOD DAMMIT!!!" High School yelled as he threw his cards down at the table. "THAT'S IT, I'M GONE!!!"
"Bye, High School!" I laughed as he made his way out the door. I watched with glee as Gabe grabbed the kid and all but kicked him out of the store.
"What's with him?" Asked the player next to me, some fat dude that had to weigh like a billion, trillion, quadrillion pounds and who was exposing his butt crack. A common sight in card game tournaments.
"Probably needed a diaper change," I replied with a grin. "He just needs to git gud."
"That guy was pure cringe acting like that," said the player opposite the fat guy, an eight year old black girl. I couldn't help but smirk because she was clearly winning.
So a few rounds later (with nothing but wins for me) it was time for the Quarterfinals. My next opponent was...
...oh sugar. The blonde bombshell who's so flipping hot she makes Perfect Tens weep with jealousy.
"Hi," she said to me with a smile. "Name's Paige. Paige Thompson. You?"
"Daisy Dorkwinkle," I blurted out without thinking. "I mean Derriwinkle! Derriwinkle! It's Derriwinkle, not Dorkwinkle!"
"That's a pretty name," she said. Good God, no way was I gonna survive this. I could never; not with that smile that shone brighter than the stars! "I hope you're ready!"
"Yeah..." I said as I struggled to shuffle my deck. The way she shuffled hers was...so dainty, yet so focused. She treated her cards with great care using her perfectly manicured fingers. She had glittery pink nail polish, like a real life Barbie doll. Her deck box was white with Sailor Moon stickers, and her card sleeves were glittering pink.
"So, uh," I struggled. I was about to make my first move, but I couldn't focus. "S-s-see, I'd like to, uh-""
"Take me seriously," she suddenly said, her gorgeous blue eyes narrowing. "Or I won't forgive you."
"...what makes you think I'll go easy on you?" I said, snapping out of my delusions. My fingers were on my Unknown Synchron; pretty much my worst opening move. Yeah, no, that won't work at all. I'm gonna make a better move. "I Normal Summon Gold Gadget! This allows me to Special Summon my Yellow Gadget, which then allows me to search my deck for a Green Gadget! Now I Link Summon my Platinum Gadget using my Gold and Yellow Gadgets as tribute!"
I smirked; not a bad opening move. She, however, remained stone faced.
"Platinum Gadget allows me to Special Summon a card from my hand, so here comes my Green Gadget!" I said as I played my card. "With Green Gadget, I can get a Red Gadget from my deck and put it into my hand!"
She remained stone face and unimpressed. What she didn't know is that this is all just my opening move.
"I play the Spell Card Double Summon, allowing me to summon yet another Monster, so here comes Red Gadget!" I said as I played my cards. "And with Red Gadget, I can search for Yellow Gadget from my Deck! Now, with my Green and Red Gadgets, I Xyz Summon Gear Gigant X!"
I passed the turn over to her.
"I play Dark Hole," she said, and I winced; I had no way to counter that card. I sent all my cards to the Graveyard. But my Platinum Gadget had a special ability, letting me summon my Silver Gadget from my deck, which then allowed me to summon Yellow Gadget, which in turn let me get another Green Gadget from my deck to my hand. "Next I play Melody of Awakening Dragon, bringing two Blue Eyes White Dragons from my deck to my hand."
I gulped. I was done for if this is what I thought it was.
"Next, Polymerization," she said as she played the card and sent three Blue Eyes to the graveyard. "I Fusion Summon Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon. Next I play Silver's Cry, bringing back one Blue Eyes to the field."
I was done for.
"Next I play Return of the Dragon Lords, bringing back another Blue Eyes," she said. "I attack for game."
She was right; I was done. This girl wasn't some fake gamer girl like Gabe told me; she was hard core. She was a PRO!
And that made her so much hotter...
