Sunday morning and nothing to do, so I got up out of bed at 8 AM. This is something I've been doing a lot, lately; getting up earlier, I mean. I went upstairs to eat breakfast with Sarah, Dad, and Kevin. We had waffles.

My phone buzzed; I got an email. I opened it up, and saw it was from Paige...

"Can we meet up later? I need your help with something."

She gave me the address; it was pretty close to where we ran into each other last Friday morning.

"I'm heading out after breakfast," I said. "Gotta meet with Paige, help her with something."

"Paige is the blonde, yeah?" Dad said, taking his eyes off his newspaper for a moment.

"Who?" Asked Kevin. "You mean that blonde who was drunk last Friday?"

"Yup, her," I said, getting up. "Thanks for the waffles, Sarah. Please excuse me."

I left the house, and noticed Kevin was following me.

"Go home, Kev," I said to him.

"Nu-uh," he said. "I wanna make sure she's OK."

"I know," I said. "But I got this."

"Let me help!" Kevin shouted. "You don't know what it felt like, Sis!"

"Huh?"

"I couldn't do a damned thing back then!" He said, tears in his eyes. "She was just laying there, and I couldn't do anything, and...and...I was just so USELESS!"

"You weren't useless," I said, rubbing his arm. "Sam and I simply took over, remember? You weren't needed anymore; you did your part."

"I know that here," he said, pointing to his head. Then he pointed to his heart. "But here? I'm not even sure, Sis."

"Alright," I said, sighing. "You can come."

So me and Kevin walked to where Paige was waiting for me. I introduced Kevin to Paige, and...

"Hey, Kevin?" She said. "Thanks for helping me back there."

"I didn't do anything," Kevin said, sadness in his voice. "Daisy and her date did all the work; I just-"

"You tried waking me up," Paige said, smiling. "That counts for a lot to a girl who'd been left by her boyfriend on the sidewalk."

"Yeah, sorry about that," he said, looking down and kicking the ground. "I'm still shocked about that, ya know?"

"I'm sorry," Paige said, looking down. "I...don't have good taste in men, I think."

"Yeah, kinda like my old classmate, Amanda Whittaker," said Kevin. "She dated a college dude back in Sophomore year, then she dated a homeless busker in Junior year. Then she got involved with a druggie back in Senior year and she OD'd and died."

"Jesus," said Paige, her eyes wide. I agreed with her sentiment.

"So yeah," said Kevin, shrugging. "Don't do what Amanda did."

"OK," Paige said, clapping her hands once. "I guess I'm done with men for good. I can't trust 'em anymore."

"Sorry," Kevin said, sighing. "Maybe try dating girls?"

"Well..." she bit her lip. "My dad would kill me if I did that. Maybe I'm better off being a spinster."

"The right one's out there for you," I said to her.

"I hope so," she said, putting a hand on my shoulder. "I hope...they're single when I meet them."

"Me too," I said.
