"So how's your business?" Doc Martin asked me.
"Well, you know," I said, shrugging. "I'm surviving. I'm not rich or anything, but the bills get paid on time and I've got some savings going on. So, no complaints on that department."
"I see," he said, smiling. "And what about your living conditions?"
"Well, it was tough moving out of Mom and Dad's place, but," I said, fiddling with my hands. "I knew it was for the best."
"Do you cook?"
"Ya know, I've been working on that!" I said. "I still can't trust myself with a knife, but I've been working on making simple dishes! I can cook rice, beans, and if the meat comes already sliced, I can cook it!"
"I am glad to hear it," Doc Martin said. "So...we won't be needing Tenko anymore?"
"I feel," I began, gathering my thoughts. "I feel like I've outgrown her...but...can I say goodbye?"
He smiled and took out the Tenko puppet.
"Hi, Daisy," said Tenko. "It's been a while; how have you been?"
"I've been good, Tenko," I said. "I've been really good. I did it; I got my life on track."
"Did you, now?" She asked.
"Yeah," I said. "I started my own business a year and a half ago, and I've been doing pretty good. I'm more social now, and I even dedicate Friday nights to hang out with my friends. Sometimes Gabe and his wife, Sam, host movie marathons over at Gatekeeper, and we always attend."
"Who's 'we'?" Asked Tenko.
"Me and Paige," I said, smiling as I showed her my wedding band. "I totally wifed her up a month ago."
"I'm very glad to hear that," said Tenko. "How was the wedding?"
"Awesome," I said. "We had a Legend of Zelda theme going on; I dressed up as Princess Zelda, and Paige dressed up as Link. Todd even dressed up like Ganon and pretended to kidnap me, and so Paige had to save me! The guests got a real kick out of that!"
"Wow!" Said Tenko. "Whose idea was that?"
"The theme was hers, but that little show?" I said, grinning. "That was me."
"Very imaginative; I'm sure the guests had the time of their lives!" She said.
"Yeah, we all did," I said, smiling. "Hey, Tenko? Thanks for all your help throughout the years."
"It's been my pleasure, honey," she said, and then Doc Martin put her away.
"Be safe, Daisy," he said. "And always remember; you're welcome here anytime."
"Thanks, Doc," I said, getting up. "I think I'm gonna be OK."
"Good," he said as he waved goodbye.
In the waiting room, Paige was waiting for me.
"Ready to go?" She asked as she got up.
"Sure thing," I said, smiling at her. We left the building hand in hand.
"This is nice," Paige said. "It's a beautiful day."
"You gonna stream later tonight, right?" I asked.
"Yup," she replied. "Streaming some Street Fighter III for three whole hours."
"Sweet," I said. "I love you, Dragon Lord."
"I love you, too, Top Dawg," she said, and then we kissed.
I'm a thirty six year old mess of a person. I can only cook simple dishes, I only have a learner's permit, I'm autistic, and I live in a small apartment. I prefer reading comics and watching cartoons than medical or courtroom dramas. My favorite movies are all about space wizards with laser swords. My idea of a perfect evening involves lots and lots of video games. But I've got a great family, great friends, a job I love doing, and I'm married to the most awe inspiring woman in the world. This is my life, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
