"What are you doing here?" I asked. "And what are you doing getting wet in the rain?"
"I forgot my umbrella," she said; I noticed her hands were shaking and she was all wet.
"Come on," I said, motioning for her to get under my umbrella. "What's going on? Why are you in town?"
"Ummm," she said as she got under my umbrella. "I'm...uh...I...was looking for...ACHOO!"
"Oh God, don't tell me you're getting sick," I said as I grabbed her hand. "Come on, I'll take you to my house and you can dry up."
I dragged Paige home with me, and in five minutes we were there. The poor girl was soaked! I checked her forehead; no fever yet.
"You wanna take a hot shower?" I offered. "I can put your clothes in the laundry to wash 'em up, OK?"
"Thank you," she said, and I noticed tears were forming in her eyes. "Daisy, I-"
"I think you'd better hurry up," I said. "I'll lend you some of my clothes, OK? I think they'd fit you. Well, go on! Shower's this way! Don't worry about my folks, they'll be gone a while!"
And so I practically had to push Paige to take a shower. I then went downstairs to my room and picked up some extra clothes for her to put on. One of my gym tops, some shorts, and some of my underwear...wait, that might not be a good idea. I decided to remove the undies for now. After she was done showering, I gave Paige my clothes and took hers to the drier over at the laundry room.
"You have a really nice house," Paige said; it took all I had not to stare at her because she was just...too beautiful for words. Even with her hair all wet, wearing nothing but a plain white tank top and shorts, she's still far and away the most beautiful woman ever. My poor heart couldn't ever take looking at her, knowing she didn't like me that way.
"Thanks," I said. "My dad has his own company and my stepmom's a University professor with tenure, so we've got some money to spare."
"Nice," Paige said, chuckling a bit. "What was it like? Growing up with money, I mean."
"I wouldn't know," I said. "Dad's company didn't take off till my birth mother left us, and that's because he was giving it his two hundred percent. Grandma had to live with us to make sure there was SOMEONE in the house to take care of me, which wasn't easy because, well, my whole 'mom leaving me' thing left its scars. So...I don't know what to tell you."
"Sorry," she said. "I didn't mean to be insensitive."
"That's OK, don't worry about it," I said. "Hey, wanna see my room?"
"OK!"
I showed Paige my room.
"Woah, sweet computer," She said, looking at my three screen computer. "Where'd you buy this?"
"Well I bought the three monitors online," I said. "And then I got the chassis at this second hand store at a great deal. All the other pieces, including the keyboard, I bought online too. Then I put it all together."
"Woah, you MADE this?" She said. "AWESOME!"
"Yeah," I said, pointing to my box of spare parts. "And I keep a bunch of spare parts over there, in case I need to fix anything."
"Sweet!" She said excitedly. "How much did you spend?"
"Around nine hundred and fifty," I said, grimacing. "I know, I know; too much. But I wanted to have a good video card for my games, and-"
"My gaming PC cost me double that," Paige said. "You telling me I could have just built my own for a FRACTION of that price!?"
"Y-yeah..." I said, wincing. Nineteen hundred dollars? Damn, she did spend a bundle.
