Sunday, and I had a date with April to watch the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. Well, there are worse ways to spend a Sunday, I guess. But what's gonna suck is that I HAVE to break up with April, TODAY. So of course I dragged my feet to Gatekeeper, my heart heavy for what I had to do.

I started thinking about giving this another try, ya know? I mean, April loves me; isn't it too cruel to her for me to just break up with her like that? Maybe if we have a polite, adult conversation about it, we can work something out! Yeah, maybe we can work it out or something, I dunno!

I...I don't want to be alone again...

So I arrived at Gatekeeper at 2 PM, with half an hour to go before The Force Awakens. Reluctantly I entered; there were some teens sitting in chairs, but the store wasn't nearly as packed as yesterday.

"'Sup Dorkwinkle," said Gabe. "Pinkie's here."

"April?" I called out, looking to see if I could find her. I did; she was talking to some teenage looking boy, couldn't be older than sixteen. I got a dark feeling in the pit of my stomach...

"Oh!" April exclaimed, looking a little embarrassed. "Uh, Daisy? Meet Josh, a new friend of mine."

"Hi," he said, looking intimidated by me, I think. He had shaggy hair, a long nose, and he looked to be a hundred pounds soaking wet. Kinda like Michael Cera in the Scott Pilgrim movie.

"'Sup?" I said to him.

"Uh..." He looked even more nervous. "So, how do you know April?"

"Well," I was a bit embarrassed to say we're dating, what with my intention to break up with her. "We met at this toy store last week, and-"

"We've been friends since then!" April suddenly said.

What?

"OK, cool," he said, suddenly relaxing a little more.

"Hey, uh, April?" I began, trembling a little. "Can I have a word?"

"Okay, Daisy!" She said, and even I could tell that her face was one of someone who's realized she just fucked up. I led her to the bathroom, where we were alone.

I honestly expected to blow up at her, to cry, to end up hating her or something, like I've done before when someone I liked dropped me like that. But I wasn't angry; a little disappointed, sure, but not angry.

"What was that?" I asked, feeling tears in my eyes.

"Well..." she gulped. "I...I feel a real connection with him, you know? We both like My Little Pony."

Ouch.

"And I've been feeling like maybe you and me aren't as compatible as I thought," she said.

Double ouch.

"Honestly, I think we rushed into this and now we've run our course," she continued. "I think we're better off just being friends."

Triple ouch.

"This kinda sucks," I said, tears streaming down my face. "But good on you for finding someone who's better for you."

"I hope you'll forgive me," she said, crying. "Didn't mean to hurt you."

"It's fine," I said, drying my tears. "We weren't compatible anyway. Getting dumped always sucks, especially if you're dumped for someone else, but... I'm a big girl. I'll live."

"It's nothing against you," she said, still crying. "But-"

"Hey," I said, shushing her. "This was a matter of when, not if. I'm happy for the two of you, really."

"Yeah?" She asked, drying her eyes.

"Yeah," I said. "How'd you meet?"

"We met last night online," she said. "We were chatting up a storm, and then one thing led to another, and now he and I are watching Star Wars together. We like Star Wars too."

"Really?" I said, smiling. The pain was honestly evaporating.

"Yeah, but only the new ones, though," she said. "The old ones are, ew, old."

Hoo boy, this break up just got a whole lot easier to accept!

"OK," I said, clapping my hands together and stretching my arms. "Soooo, I think I'll head home, since I can't say I'm much of a fan for the Sequels."

"You don't like the Sequels?" She asked, surprised. Then she started looking away. "It's fine, I mean, to each their own...."

"Yeah," I said. "So...see ya 'round..."

"Hey, uh, about those nudes I sent ya," she said, grabbing my arm. "If it's, I mean, mind deleting them, please?"

I smiled, took out my phone, and deleted her nudes. Then I showed her my phone as proof of my actions.

"Mind deleting mine?" I asked her.

"Awww, but you look so good naked," she protested with a light giggle, but she took out her phone and deleted my nudes. "Done..."

"Thanks," I said, sighing. "Guess it's goodbye."

"Sorry..." she said as she opened up the door. She went back to the Michael Cera looking kid; looking them over, they seemed like a cute couple. Ah well...

That was honestly the best break up I ever had. I really felt the closure there.

As I left the bathroom, I saw Gabe was standing beside the door. I nodded to him; he knew what had went down in there.

"You OK?" He asked.

"Yeah," I replied. "Honestly...it was smooth. No ill feelings; I feel like I got closure and all."

"OK," he said, nodding. "Let's go outside, OK? Hey, Joyce! Cover for me!"

"Sure, boss!" Said Gabe's employee, Joyce. I always forget about her...

We stepped outside the store, where Gabe looked at me expectantly.

"I promise, I'm fine," I said.

"I know," he said. "I'm sorry it happened this way; you didn't deserve to be dumped for someone else."

"It's not the first time," I said, chuckling a bit. "It's not like I was in love with her or nothing; we were together a week, after all. And it's not like with Sally Mack, ya know? April didn't ghost me, she broke up with me to my face, which I TOLD ya is better..."

I took a deep, deep breath; I suddenly felt like I couldn't even stand up anymore. I sat on the floor, and Gabe sat next to me.

"This sucks," I whispered. "I wanted this...I was going to break up with her, you know?"

"Funny how life goes," Gabe said, putting a hand on my shoulder.

"How come I feel like poo?" I asked.

"Because break ups suck," said Gabe, sighing.

"She was my first real girlfriend," I said, tears forming in my eyes again. "Now what do I do?"

"You heal," he said. "You live your life, and then when the time is right, you'll find the one for you."

"I'm already thirty four," I said, my nose clogging up as my face got wet with tears. "When will THAT happen?"

"When you're ready," said Gabe, getting up. "Movie time, if you wanna stay."

"Nah," I said, getting back up. "The Sequels really suck."

"Yup, they sure do," said Gabe. "Whatcha gonna do? Go game?"

I paused; what WAS I gonna do? I thought for a while, and said "I'm hitting the town, see what's up."
