"So how you been lately?" Asked Amy as she picked me up for the gym. Nine in the morning, just as we agreed. "Nice new kicks, by the way."

"Thanks," I said, blushing a bit. "Well, you know; still at it, still trying to make it all work."

"I know that feel," Amy said, sighing. "You really scared us both, girl. When Todd got that message from your mom, he literally screamed. He was "ahhhh! Daisy tried to kill herself!" And THAT freaked ME out, because I had NO idea you were ever suicidal."

"Sorry about that."

"Hey, it's..." Amy said, trying to find the words. "I almost said it was OK, but...it's not. I don't mean to be angry or anything with you, don't get me wrong. I just don't wanna lose you. I can't lose another friend to suicide."

"I really am sorry," I said. "I won't make excuses for-"

"What brought you there?" Asked Amy. "I mean, what brought you to such a dark place, if you don't mind me asking?"

"Well..." I gulped, and then I told her about April and Paul.

"Wow," said Amy. "I always did hate that jerk."

"You know him?" I asked.

"Unfortunately," Amy said. "He and I met in college; I was a freshman, he was one semester away from graduating. We met at this party where he tried hitting on me, telling me he was the president of the local College Republicans Club."

"That collection of crybabies who always whine about Liberal professors?" I asked, snorting.

"Yup," Amy said, chuckling. "The kind that go "waaa waaa waaa, I can't get the grades I deserve because my Liberal professor discriminates against me!" Loser, you legit think you know more than the book you never read!"

"I know!" I literally laughed out loud. "And THEN they go "uuuugh, I couldn't get into my first choice of college because of Affirmative Action!" Like BOY, you couldn't get in because you didn't have any extra curriculars AND you went to a private school where Mommy and Daddy bought your grades for you!"

"Oh GOD I hate that!" Amy burst out laughing. "Like, you're a B student, Charlie! You really thought you were gonna get into a college that requires a letter of recommendation from a legit Senator!?"

"Wait, wait, I got one," I said, laughing. ""My professor kicked me out of the class for expressing my political beliefs!" Buddy, you got kicked out because you literally told the Mexican kid he deserved to be deported!"

"That legit happened once," said Amy, sounding more serious. "Chick I took Humanities with. She yelled at a Honduran guy, saying that he deserved deportation. THAT tantrum got her kicked out of Uni."

"What the hell," I said. "Stupid baby Karen; what, did the Honduran guy get a better grade than her?"

"Yup, that's what happened. Apparently him getting the highest grade in class meant the Professor started paying more attention to him, which meant he, not her, would be getting connections," she said. "Anyway, yeah; Paul Jones is a dick and I want you to stay the hell away from him. He acts like a good ol' feminist, but that's what it is. Just an act, and not even an Oscar worthy one."

"He had me fooled," I said. "He's got Paige fooled, too."

"Paige deserves better," Amy said, sighing. "Hey, what do you think about her?"

"I think she's cool," I said. "Why?"

"Oh," she said, as she parked the car. "No reason. We're here, by the way."

So we got out of the car and entered the gym. Apparently, nine thirty in the morning is a good time to hit the gym because everyone else is either at school or work.
