Hello and welcome to the eighth chapter!

(P.S. As you can see, I've been getting into some anime again lately)

Deku's POV unless told otherwise. If a POV is switched mid-chapter and it is not indicated who's POV it is, it's Deku's.

Enjoy!!!

???: Izuku, are you listening?

I jolt and look around.

I'm sitting on the top of a grassy hill overlooking a forest. Behind me, there is a girl with auburn hair and blue eyes painting on a canvas. Sitting next to me is a boy with half red half white hair, looking at the view.

Wait, is that... Amalie Whyte and Shoto Todoroki? Why are they here?

Me: Sorry, I was, uh... Lost in thought?

Amalie: Again?

Shoto: Jeez Amalie, let a boy dream.

Amalie: And what, pray tell, is that supposed to mean?

Shoto: Never mind... Hey Izuku, I got another one.

Another one what? Oh right, he used to do that...

Me: What is it this time?

Amalie: Izuku! Are you coming over here or not?

Me: I'm coming, I'm coming. Just a sec, Todoroki. What's up, Amalie?

Amalie: See this?

She points to her canvas, and I look at it. It's the three of us, with the two of them in the front and me in the back, all of us smiling contentedly. The background is the forest in front of us.

Me: Wow, you really captured the detail of my wings.

Amalie: Thanks, but that's not the problem.

Me: What's the problem then?

Amalie: No matter how I look at it, your smile always seems a little bit off.

I lean in closer to examine it.

Me: Hm. Let me think about it for a second. Todoroki, what was your question?

Shoto: If you had to pick between the two of us, which one would you save?

What did he just say?

Me: ... What?

Shoto: If there was a situation where me and Amalie's lives were on the line, who would you save?

Me: I... I don't...

I take a step back, and my eyes fall on Amalie's painting. I sharply inhale watching as the painting morphs into something else entirely.

Amalie and Shoto have stopped smiling in the painting. Instead, their eyes stare blankly ahead into nothing, covered in cuts, bruises, scratches, and more.

Amalie: Come to think of it Shoto, that's a good question.

Amalie slowly turns to me.

Amalie: If you could save one of us, who would you let live?

Shoto: Who would you allow to die?

Me: I would save both of you!

Amalie: No, you wouldn't.
