I went into my father's room quietly. I saw him laid in his bed, eyes closed, chest slowly rising and falling rhythmically. The doctor poked his head around the door.

"You're his daughter, correct?" he asked.

I turned, and nodded, before watching the doctor leave. I went over to my father's bed and sat down on the edge of it. The machine beeped at a steady pace. I looked up at it and tilted my head as I saw all the figures, confused.

"Child..." my father's voice rasped quietly.

I turned to him.

"Papa?" I mumbled as he took my hand shakily.

"I want you to be the Alpha of our pack when I die..." he rasped.

"No, no," I began to tear up. "You aren't going to die Papa. The doctors will help!"

"Sweetheart..." his voice trailed off. "I have cancer in my head. I won't survive this."

I bit my lip, trying to stop the tears falling from my eyes. I tightened my grip on his hand as he took a few raspy breaths.

"You'd make your mother proud..." my father began. "You're one of the most honest, loyal, determined young ones in the pack. One day, when you have a partner, you'll lead the pack."

"No, Papa... I can't!" I cried.

He smiled weakly as one of my tears splashed onto his face.

"You are my daughter, y/n. My daughter can do anything. My one and only daughter..."

He opened his arms as an invitation. I hugged him, careful not to hurt him.

"My little princessa, Roseblood."

I couldn't stop myself from crying. Papa's nickname for me was the purest thing I'd heard, and I couldn't believe I wouldn't hear him say it much more.

"Princessa, go look at the sunset," my father said.

I stood up and went to the window, where the sun was setting over the town.

"The sun rises and falls every day, correct?"

I nodded.

"A ruler's time on the throne is like the rising sun. My time as Alpha is setting, and yours is just rising."

Suddenly, I heard the machine's beeping speed up. I turned, alarmed. I saw my father slump down, barely breathing.

"Papa!" I cried, running over. "Papa!"

He wasn't moving and his eyes were shut.

"Papa wake up!"

The doctors rushed into the room, as my father weakly reached for my hand one last time.

"I love you Princessa..."

The machine's beeping turned into one long, high pitched screech.

"NO! PAPA!" I screamed, as one of the doctors grabbed me and pulled me away.

No, no! He can't die! I kicked and screamed, pushing away anyone who tried to pull me away. Grief and sadness overcame me.

"PAPA!" I screamed, my energy dropping.

Tears streamed out of my eyes as I felt myself being picked up. I felt a sharp pain in the back of my neck, and darkness overcame me, my body falling limp in the person's arms.

I rocked myself back and forth as this memory played in my head, vivid as the daylight. My father had died peacefully, if anything. I sighed sadly, regretting ever staying in his room as long as I did. Another memory flashed in front of my eyes. A worse one.

I woke up in someone's arms. It was the Elder - my father's great-aunt. She gently put me down as she felt me shuffle.

"How are you feeling, young one?" she asked softly.

"I-I..." I felt my lip tremble as the Elder crouched down to my level.

"It's okay to feel drained, young one. I know how hard it is to lose someone..." she whispered.

"But he's our Alpha!" I protested.

"And you will be our Alpha when you are old enough."

"How long's that?" I asked, dreading the answer.

"When you turn 16," the Elder replied.

"That's too early!" I said, crying again.

The Elder smiled at me empathetically. I knew that she'd lost a lot of people. She was one of the oldest members of our pack.

"You are strong enough to lead us. We will never forget your father, but you can continue his great legacy."

"I'll never be as good as Papa."

"Oh you will child... the younger generations have always been the most insightful."

I smiled at her gratefully, feeling a wave of calmness over me. I knew I'd feel more grief later, but right now...

"You feel calmer, yes?"

I nodded. Suddenly, a loud crash ahead startled us. The Elder stood up, her eyes wide with knowing and dread. She knew something.

"The pack," she muttered faintly.

She transformed into her wolf form. Her beautiful silver-grey fur sparkled in the sunlight, making her look young and energetic. I transformed myself, my black fur blending into shadows of the forest.

"Follow me young one!" the Elder called, running into the forest.

I leapt forward, my small paws pounding on the ground as I swerved through the undergrowth after the Elder. I felt the wind through my fur, but it didn't carry a welcoming scent.

"HYDRA are here..." I heard the Elder murmur.

My bright blue eyes shot open wide as I struggled to keep up. We eventually reached the pack camp after running for what felt like hours. Dread dragged at my stomach as I saw huge men with guns running around. I could make out shapes in the shadows of cages that lay at the men's feet. Everyone was panicking, the mothers and elders rushing to hide the young ones, the most physically fit fighting furiously. I saw my mentor at the other side of the clearing, struggling to fight against a large man. I quickly glanced to my side. The Elder was gone. I raced towards my mentor, leaping on the man and throwing him to the ground.

"Thankyou!" my mentor breathed, joining me in clawing the soldier.

Just as I felt as if I was achieving something, I yelped out in pain. I looked down at my leg. The fur around the wound was red, and I felt lightheaded. I couldn't fight anymore. I stumbled back as a wave a darkness overcame me...

"I'm sorry..." I murmured.
