Peter
I knew today was going to be a difficult day for Y/n. What with being the leader of the Hybrids, she was expected to lead the funeral for those fallen. Sylvia and Aliana had taken to teaching me the inner workings of a Hybrid society and I knew that each of the 7 fallen Hybrids were to get their own part of the funeral.
I left Y/n's room and closed the door behind. There was only a few minutes until the funeral started. Y/n had gone down to where the bodies were a few minutes before. I walked down the corridor and caught a glance of Natasha in her room. The door was half-ajar - uncommon, for the red-head liked her privacy. She was sat on her bed, her back to the door. I knocked on the door. Upon hearing a quiet, "Yeah?" I went in.
"You alright?" I asked.
Nat nodded slowly. She was looking at something in her hands. I went over, not sure if I was allowed but not caring. The woman didn't seem to care as she spoke to me.
"I might never get to redeem myself for what I did," she told me.
I knew she meant the Red Room. I didn't know much about her past, but this I did know.
"I left my sister there when I got out... I regretted it... Y/n managed to save herself and the Hybrids. And for that I'm glad."
"What do you mean?" I asked, looking at the picture reel she held in her hand.
It was of two young girls - one with blue hair, one with blonde.
"As long as someone in this world gets to redeem what bad they did, I'm happy."
"You might get to see your sister again," I replied, saying the only thing that came to my head.
Natasha laughed and turned to look at me. Her emerald eyes held only caring humour.
"You're young Peter. You still have the gift of being able to believe shit like that."
I felt stung at how she said the last few words. She didn't have much hope and I hated it.
"I'm sorry," I apologised.
"What for?"
"Being uhm..."
"Positive?" Natasha asked with a smile.
"I guess."
"Don't be. You're optimistic. I'm more... pessimistic."
I - not really thinking - just hugged her. She hugged me back.
"Go find Y/n," Natasha told me. "She needs you today."
I nodded and stood up.
"Now I'm incredibly glad I didn't blow her brains out," Nat finished with a smirk.
I chuckled.
"All of us are."
Y/n
People were now gathering around the place where the funeral was taking place. There was a field not far from where the Hybrid's bodies were resting and had decided to bury them there. It was slightly elevated and guaranteed the spirits closer to the afterlife. Me and Elder Phillip were doing the funeral.
"Do you know what you're doing?" Phillip asked.
I nodded anxiously.
"Am I a good leader?" I questioned. "I don't want to be bad and hurt anybody."
Phillip smiled.
"A bad leader doesn't question her actions. She leads and only cares when somebody gets hurt. A good leader leads with confidence, yet balances her optimism. She always cares about her pack members but has the strength to push away the feelings that tether one to making only safe decisions."
I listened intently. I knew I had to make the decision myself. Phillip's answer was more like advice to follow.
"I want to be a good leader," I replied.
He took my right hand and placed a small woven sack on my palm.
"You are worthy if the pack believes you worthy. You are worthy if your ancestors decree you to good fortune."
I nodded and looked over at Bucky and Steve who were carrying the coffins. I nodded at them gratefully and they nodded back, placing all 7 coffins on the ground in a line. I went over to them.
"Thankyou, both of you," I thanked.
Steve smiled and replied, "It's our duty to make sure the needs of the pack are tended to."
Bucky laughed.
"What he means is that he respects you immensely," the metal armed super soldier explained.
I chuckled.
"So he should," I replied with a smirk.
Steve looked confused until I laughed and added, "I'm kidding! You don't have to respect me, I'm 16 not 104."
Both men sent me teasing glares.
"We're in our 90s, not dead," Steve joked.
"You're almost dead then," I replied, still joking.
"But we have every reason to respect you Y/n," Steve continued, serious now. "You've been through so much so young. You could've given up but you didn't. I've never met such a plucky teenager."
I smiled.
"Thanks guys," I thanked.
"No problem," Bucky replied. "Also, Peter told me to tell you that he wants to see you after the funeral."
He smirked.
"Alright, thanks," I thanked.
They both left and I turned back to Phillip.
"Let's do this," I said with a deep breath.
