Lorelei's POV:
I'm sitting on the couch after coming in from the woods. I'd successfully avoided Nik all day. It was fairly easy with him being preoccupied with the newest prisoner in the cellar. He's kept it very quiet as to who this person is. The only thing I know for certain is that it's a vampire. Nik makes certain they receive blood every few hours. It's a man. I've heard him shouting but never caught a name. I've been ordered to keep my distance.
As I sit, the curiosity becomes too much to bare and I make my way to the basement door. My hand touches the handle and I shout as a burning sensation spreads across my hand. I pull away immediately and look at the injury. A minor first degree at best. I stare as it heals and look back at the door handle which looks completely normal.
He must've spelled it.
I listen intently, wondering if I could hear the mystery person. I can hear the faint sound of a heart beating and breathing but that's it.
What am I thinking? I can get answers from Tyler...as long as Nik isn't with him.
I make my way out the door and walk down the street. If it was a further distance and there was enough woods to conceal me, I'd wolf out. Through my time with Nik, I'd never gotten behind the wheel, rarely even getting in a car. Being in such cramped quarters made me uncomfortable and I preferred to avoid it.
As I make my way through town, I hope that I don't run into any of Nik's spies.
There's only two hybrids left: Tyler & Bree.
Bree and I had become quite close.
She was taken from a wolf pack a few states away. All the others had been taken were all killed either from Klaus's enemies or by his own hand. Bree didn't trust Tyler and neither did I but he was the only one with the information I needed.
As the Lockwood mansion comes into view, another thought comes to mind.
If I can get into the basement, maybe I can free Rebekah.
I'd brought this up to Nik a multitude of times through the past few months but he shot me down every single time, getting more irritated with me every time I asked.
I walk up and knock on the door.
I listen intently but there's nothing.
He must not be home.
Bree lived in the Mikaelson mansion that Nik had built. Tyler still lived at his own place which I was thankful for. He got on my nerves.
Time to find a witch I guess.
I wonder if I could track down the witch who did the spell for Nik in the first place.
He'd make sure she's protected, in order to keep the spell in progress.
I sigh.
I go through a few restaurants and shops, asking around about the young witch.
Unfortunately I didn't have much to go on, other than knowing her name is Skylar.
I walk home with no information.
At first I debate on taking off to the woods but then I see the lights are on in the first floor.
A day wasted.
I walk up the steps and enter the house.
Tyler is standing there looking nervous.
"What?" I ask
He looks at the ground as Nik enters with a stranger. The guy is slim, tall with brown hair that's spiked upwards, his green eyes staring intently. It starts as a confusing encounter but the tension rises as Nik turns his attention to me. Tyler shifts from one foot to the next, not looking at any of us and I'm wondering what the deal is. Nik gestures to the stranger.
"Lorelei, meet Stefan Salvatore. He'll be coming with us on our road trip." Nik says
Stefan reaches out a hand to shake mine but I ignore him, more determined to get answers rather than chitchat.
"What trip?" I demand
"We're in need of more hybrids. Tyler will be staying here with Bree to watch the house whilst you, Stefan and I go wolf hunting."
"You don't need me for that." I reply as I turn to leave
Nik speeds in front of me so fast that I bump into him. Feeling that's their cue to leave, Tyler and Stefan walk out the front door with Nik blocking me the entire time. Once the door closes, he reaches back and locks it, keeping his eyes on me. I stand there, arms crossed with annoyance written all over my face.
"Don't lie to me Nik. You are fully capable of collecting your hybrids by yourself. Stefan's just there as backup. The only reason you're dragging me along is because you don't trust me."
"Where were you today?" He asks
I try not to show the panic on my face.
I can tell by the darkness in his eyes that he knows. To what extent, I can't be sure.
I must've talked to one of his spies without realizing. I hadn't even brought up my ideas to Tyler and Bree wasn't even here. I've seen what he does to those that are family and not. If you didn't have the luxury of being his relative, you got the death sentence. Not that his punishment for his loved ones was much better- stabbing special daggers to keep them asleep until removed for decades...
What would he do to me?
"What do you mean?" I ask quietly
"What part of my question needs to be clarified? What were you doing before you came home?" Nik demands
I open my mouth to speak but nothing comes out. I'm not even sure what to say.
I have to say something.
He takes a step towards me.
I can't let him compel me.
"I was at the Lockwood's." I say quickly
"Why?"
"I was looking for Tyler."
"He was with me all day. If you would check your phone, you'd know that." He says
I nod.
Hell if that's all it takes for this to blow over...
"That reminds me. I should have Tyler invite his mother over for dinner."
I wait for him to say more but he doesn't.
"Lorelei?"
I look back up at him.
"I expect you to text me before and after you go out once we return."
I open my mouth to speak.
"It's not a request."
