It had been two years. Two years since the two of you decided to go separate ways. When you think about it, the truth was that it had been two years since the person you loved most in this world, turned into the person you hate the most.

The breakup was hard. It was like a long run with no end. A long run of three years of love, tenderness, dreams and future plans turned to dust. It fell apart in one night. It took more time. It started in your second year together, when he'd be so busy, that nights he wasn't busy, all he could talk about was work. You'd feel lonely in his presence and his jokes.

The third year of your love was the same fight over and over again. You missed the easier times...the times when you'd do things people in love did. Giving each other a tattoo, singing in the rain, crashing a strangers wedding- the first time was an accident, that was the first time you met him.

That night you sang and danced all night

It was a cold November that you packed your bags. You spent the month sleeping alone. And he wasn't even on tour. You didn't know if you trusted him anymore and the gut feeling you had was killing you.

Every time he would touch you, it would burn your skin because your brain would only picture his hands on someone else.

You told him how you felt-your gut feeling, your frustration, how you missed him. And his stupid self and his incapability to respond and tell you how he felt, just let you go. And that's when you started hating him.

Probably to hide the hurt of feeling he never cared. You leaving wasn't important enough for him to better himself and overcome his insecurities. He just let you go. And your brain came up with the answer that he didn't care because he had someone else this whole time. Maybe he did.

Two years passed and your life was back on his track. You started dating again, finding joy and doing things you used to do with him with other friends. Your mutual friends survived the split, but it would be hard for them not to see you together.

The resentment towards each other made you be mean and cruel to each other, so you decided to avoid each other. If your friends were going to see a movie, and he was there, you wouldn't go. But the next time you'd be there, he'd ditch.

Your friends always said that it was stupid and you both had to grow up because it wasn't nice being in between both of you. But you knew it was better.

You were lucky enough that last time your friends gathered together for a paintball game, he went because next weekend, you and your friends would be spending four days in the Hamptons.

You needed that trip. You worked like crazy those last few weeks and spending time with friends, was exactly what you needed. And it would be a great time to introduce them to your new girlfriend. She was very new, you'd only been dating for a month.

You spent the last year going on 'dates' with whoever you could find in the city, just to meet her one night in an art museum.

When you invited her for a coffee, you talked for hours about feminism and LGBTQ+ rights because you were both activists. She was comfortable enough to tell you about her transition and how it influenced her art.

You started seeing each other more and you knew it was the right time to introduce her to your friends.

You arrived late to the house, you were always late and it was a personality trait at this stage. You left your bags in the doorway  and closed the door behind you. You could hear laughing and chats coming from the living room. You looked at Dani, you're lovely girlfriend, who for once, seemed anxious.

"Hey..." you started, holding her shoulders. "It's going to be okay. They're cool, and they'll love you"

She took a deep breath and you stroked her cheek.

"Come on, give me a smile" she gave you a smile and kissed your finger. You took your jacket off and then hers, hanging them up. You took her hand and walked into the living room.

"Your favourite bitch is here!" You announced, walking into the room. When you laid on the your eyes at the table when they were, you missed a heartbeat.

Matt was sitting there, his hands laced with a beautiful girls. He was laughing, but when he heard your voice, his smile faded. His hair was shorter than you remember and his jaw was clenched as he looked at you.

"Y/N!" Nick stood up and walked towards you. The look on your face clearly read discontent. "Always late, our favourite bitch, huh?"

You looked at him and sighed. "Why's he here?"

Seeing Matt here threw you off, you forgot to introduce Dani.

Chris stood up and laughed nervously. "Surprise!"

"Are you kidding me?" You asked, looking at him and Madi stood up.

"We thought it'd be a good idea to spend a vacation all together. We've been split since you two..."

"This is a joke right?" You asked, cutting her off.

"Guys, stop acting like fucking children. We're not going to babysit you. You're both over it, aren't you?"

Nick's words made you realise Dani was still here and you looked at her confused face, making you feel dumber.

"Look..it's a bad idea" Matt started, but you grabbed Dani's hand, cutting him off.

"It's a great idea. We're both over it, aren't we, Matt?" You asked him, with a sneaky smile. "Anyway. There's someone I'd like to introduce you all to.." you started, raising yours and Dani's hand.

They all gave you a weird look for a second, because you didn't mention you were bringing a plus one, but you wanted it to be a surprise.

"This is Dani. Dani, this is everyone"

You laughed and Dani shook everyone's hand. Matt's expression was...you couldn't figure it out.

He shook her hand with a warm smile. He introduced himself and Dani told him she was a big fan, something she didn't tell you before , maybe because you didn't bring Matt up in conversations.

He introduced you to the girl he was with. Amber. Boring name, you thought to yourself.

"Pleased to meet you. I'm Y/N, and if  you want my advice, run now" you said, giving Matt a teasing look before sitting down at the table.

This was going to be a long weekend...
