The drive out was peaceful. Matt put on a podcast on the way, and you listened, pausing it sometimes to ask Matt questions. The drive to the campgrounds passed quickly.

Matt booked the campsite last weekend, a last minute decision. You, Nick, Madi and Chris had all been there when Matt mentioned wanting to go camping before tour started. Nick took some convincing but eventually he agreed. You left the work to Matt and when he sent a link to the campsite into your group chat, you had fallen in love.

"Excited?" You asked Matt when you pulled into the parking lot. You parked the car and turned to look at your best friend.

Matt smiled back at you. You knew he was looking forward to this since he suggested it and he called you everyday to go over the plans.

You both got out of the car, stretching and inhaling the smell of the trees. You smiled widely as Matt, Chris, Nick and Madi waited by their cars.

Chris gave you a quick hug and you smiled. You had barely seen him, Nick and Matt and you missed them more than you realised. "Let's go see what Matt got us"

"I spoiled you all" He said, putting his sunglasses on.

"I hope so"

"Reservation for Y/N" Matt told the receptionist and you looked at him confused. "I didn't want anyone finding us" he said and you nodded. After years of friendship, you were used to it.

The receptionist typed on her computer, before pulling out some files and looking back at you all. "I've got three tents reserved. Is that correct?"

Matt furrowed his eyebrows. "I requested four"

The receptionist frowned. "Oh, I'm sorry about that. Unfortunately, we're all booked up this weekend. Is there anyway you three can make it work?"

This meant someone was going to have to share. Matt looked at you, then to Nick. "Nick, are good to bunk?"

Nick groaned and you rolled your eyes at him. "Fine, but if you kick me in your sleep, I'm kicking you out"

"I don't think they have doors"

"Zip you out then"

"That'll be fine" Matt said to the receptionist and she smiled, explaining the policies and the facilities on site. It seemed great. A bar not far from the site, camp fires and showers. Matt was spoiling you all.

You walked back to the car with Matt to drive to the tents. "Matt" you started, when you both got into the car.

"Yeah?"

"Thanks for bunking with Nick. I know you like your space so I appreciate it"

Matt smiled, warming every part of you. It was times like this when you struggled to remember Matt was just your friend and nothing more. You dated people and he dated people. "Course" he reached across and squeezed your hand.

You started the engine and prayed to God you'd get through this weekend in one piece.

The tents were in a quiet part of the site, secluded in the trees. All you could hear was the leaves in the wind and the birds. It was a relief to hear nothing but nature.

You all walked around the campsite, debating what to have for dinner. Then you started to unpack. You picked the tent closer to the woods, not wanting to be disturb by cars and if you wanted to get away from everyone to go to bed early.

The sound of the tent being unzipped made you look up from where you were checking for bedbugs. "This going to be okay for you?" Matt asked, poking his head into your tent.
