Matt spent the night in the chair beside your bed, his presence a symbol of his support. The machines continued their soft beeping, creating a surreal backdrop to the uncertainty in the air.
A nurse came into the room. She moved gracefully, her experience evident in the way she approached your bedside to check your vitals. He watched her with a mix of hope and apprehension.
As she worked, she glanced over at Matt and smiled at him. "Good morning. Did you sleep here?"
Matt nodded. "I didn't want to leave her"
Her eyes held understanding and reassurance. "She's in safe hands, sir. We're doing everything we can for her"
Matt's grip on your hand tightened, looking at you. "I know. I just...I can't leave her side"
The nurse nodded. "It's understandable that you want to be here for her. If you need anything, food, a drink, a minute to step outside, the nurses station is just outside the door. Don't be afraid to reach out"
"Thank you" Matt said with gratitude. "I appreciate that"
Nodding, the nurse finished her assessments and left the room. Left alone again, Matt looked back at your face, feeling love, concern and longing.
"You aren't alone" he whispered to you. He traced your hand, the wedding ring on your left hand was a reminder of the life you built together. "We're in this together"
In the afternoon, Matt's phone rang, breaking the silence in the room. He picked up his phone, seeing his Mom's name on the screen and he answered the call.
"Hey, Mom" Matt greeted her, with anxiety in his voice.
"Matt, honey" Marylou's voice came through the other end of the phone. "I saw the announcement about the tour. Is everything okay?"
Matt's eyes welled up with tears. He took a breath. "No, Mom. Nothing is okay"
"What happened?"
Matt's voice shook as he explained the events of the past day, from the car accident and the situation with your unborn child. As he spoke, tears rolled down his cheeks.
"I can't lose her, Mom" Matt choked out. "And Nathan...I don't want him to go through this"
There was a minute of silence on the other end.
Then his Mom spoke again. "I'm catching the first flight out, Matt" she said. "I want to be there for you, for Nathan and for Y/N"
"Mom you don't have to. I know you have your own commitments"
Marylou's voice was firm. "Matt, you are my son. Family comes first, always. I want to be there for you all"
Tears welled up in his eyes again. He took a shaky breath, his voice heavy with emotion. "Thanks, Mom. I really need you right now"
"I'll be there as soon as I can. Take care of yourself and Nathan"

As the sun began to set, casting a soothing light in the hospital room. Matt stayed in the seat beside your hospital bed.
As the day's shadows grew longer, Matt turned his gaze to your face, his fingers laced with your delicate ones.
"When you're better, we'll go back to Boston" he started, a small bit of excitement of in voice. "We'll leave everything for a while. The tour, the noise , the schedule. It can wait. We can wait"
He looked at your stomach, where his child was growing.
"And this little one" he said, speaking directly to his unborn child. "We'll take you to places you've never seen. The city, the parks. We'll have picnics and adventures. Your Mom, your big brother, Nathan and I, we'll show you the world"
