Johnny rubbed his temples, he couldn't believe the day he had. What a start to the new year. His ex wife was now doing a tell all interview, and her besties were going off on one on social media resharing fake evidence and claims. His legal team were on it though and he had spent practically the entire day discussing the approach they would be taking. He slammed his phone down on the desk, grabbed yet another cigarette, and lit it as he stood and headed out his office.
Travis came out the annex door into the main house looking dapper. "I thought your booty call was this afternoon?" "Yeah well I move fast boss.." the security guard decided to tease his boss to see if he could get a reaction and get Johnny to realise his feelings for his new neighbour. "I've actually got a hot date tonight too.." "Jeez you're quicker than some bacteria." Johnny chuckled. "Ha I think this one is gonna be different." "Oh yeah? Special is she?" Johnny said heading into the kitchen and grabbing a bottle of beer out the fridge for them both. "Ha.. you tell me. It's Meg." Johnny spat his mouthful across the island and attempted to cover his shock with clearing his throat. "Meg?" He finally said shocked. "Yeah.. she wanted to go dancing.. and her siblings all have somebody to go with so she asked me.... I would have thought she mentioned it earlier?" "Earlier?" Johnny asked confused. "When she was here?" Travis said even more confused. "She hasn't been here since before she went on her trip?" "John... are you ok? She was here earlier this afternoon?" "Travis. I'm ok.. but I'm telling you Meg was not here. Joelle dropped by this morning, stayed for a few hours but then left, other than that nobody has come by." "Johnny I literally saw her on the drive chatting with Joelle when I arrived today." "Oh.." Johnny said quietly sipping his drink. If his girl was here why hadn't she come and found him? What concerned him the most was why was she going dancing with another man? He thought they were now an item. That they had something. "Well have fun." Johnny said bluntly before leaving the room.
An hour or so later, the group arrived at the club. Dan headed straight to the bar to get drinks whilst the girls found a spare booth. "So Travis.. how long have you been in security?" Poppy asked. "About 8 years. I enjoy it, no day is the same." "I'll say." Meg giggled. Travis could see she was keen to get out on the dance floor. He had also noticed in the car on the way there, that she was tipsy. Her little foot was tapping and she was already swaying to the music. "Come on then you. Show me what you've got." Travis said holding out his hand and escorting her to the middle of the dance floor. "They are cute together don't you think?" Polly said to Poppy. "Yeah but I can't see her growing old with him can you?" "What do you mean?" "Well he's not her usual type?" "Oh and look how well that has worked for her in recent years." Dan said placing Margaritas down for the girls. "Maybe this is the change she needs." Polly said watching as the pair danced well together.
Meanwhile Johnny was pacing. He still was so confused as to why Meg would arrive home, come visit his house but not see him? She must have known he was there surely? Why hadn't he heard from her today? He had already got through a number of beers and couldn't believe that his own security guard had stole his girl from him. Was he really that much of a fuck up that she didn't want him? Was that what one week away from him had made her realise? He took a large mouthful of his beer and placed it down on the table in front of him before pulling out his phone. The time was just gone 10pm. Knowing Meg, she was probably dancing the night away now with not a care in the world, it hurt him to think of her in another man's arms. What were these feelings erupting within him? They hadn't even been seeing one another for that long but he couldn't comprehend the pain he felt knowing he had lost her.
Back in the club, Travis span Meg into an under arm turn as the track ended. "I need a breather." She said before he nodded and they headed back to the table. Poppy and Matt were cuddled up chatting quietly. The noise of the music making them lean into one another as they spoke. It looked intimate but also Meg envied it. Her sister was carefree. She wore her heart on her sleeve and never thought too much about anything. "Drink?" Travis asked. Meg shook her head. She had already drank way more than she usually did. She slumped down into the booth and rested her head on her hand that was on the table. She watched as her brother span his wife round, Polly fell back into her husband's arms and giggled. They were both laughing and looked so happy together. Meg could only hope to find a love like that one day.
Johnny was blaring music in his living room and had opened another bottle of beer, he grabbed his phone and decided to drop Meg a message.
Sorry for the lack of communication today. I trust you got home safe. Looking forward to catching up about your trip. Talk soon. JD X x
He had decided he wouldn't make things complicated for the woman, he admitted defeat if she wanted to end whatever they had he would let her. She was a nice enough girl and had been through too much for him to add to her anguish. He re read the message many times, and wanted to add so much but kept it friendly before hitting send.
Meg felt her phone vibrate in her clutch bag on her lap. She pulled out her phone and read the message from Johnny. It was nothing short of friendly, not their usual flirty banter. She took a deep breath and accepted that this was his way of reaching out. Biting her lip, she fought back the anguish of calling him and asking him for an explanation as to why their fling had come to an abrupt end but decided to be a mature person and replied civilly.
Thank you, yes the trip went well. Got home this afternoon. I did drop by but you obviously had other things going on and I didn't want to get in the way. Let me know when you want to look at post edit stuff. Meg x
Meg sent the message and turned her phone off, she didn't want to think about it anymore. She put the phone in her bag before asking Travis to take her home. She quickly said goodbye to her siblings feigning tiredness and headed out with Travis kindly guiding her.
Johnny saw her response come through. It was far from her usual witty charming self, it was almost defensive. He decided as she had bought up the subject, he was going to ask her what possessed her to visit without finding him? Did she not care about him anymore?
