Riley woke up in her bed, legs intertwined with the one she loved as his arms were secured around her waist in order to hold her against him. She stayed still, enjoying the position as she hadn't been able to hold him like that in a while.Jay woke up a few minutes later, lightly tightening his grip as he pressed a kiss to her forehead. He knew she was awake from her breathing and it was confirmed when she looked up through her lashes, smiling at him.
"Good morning, baby." He mumbled, his voice husky from just waking up. Riley had almost forgotten how hot it sounded, sending waves of electricity between her legs. She squeezed her thighs around his, bringing herself closer to him.
"Good morning, I missed this so much." She honestly told him, pressing her cheek against his chest. Riley could hear his steady heartbeat as she rested her hand near it, wanting to feel it too. He chuckled lowly, telling her he missed it too. "I'm never leaving for so long again. Never."
"Yeah, how was New York and the task force by the way?" Jay asked, slightly pulling away so he could look down at her. She pouted at the lost contact, earning another chuckle from him before he brought her back to her original position.
"It was great. I learned a lot about the job and also about the fact that fancy clothes and offices are not for me." Jay let out a laugh at her words, nodding his head. They all knew that's what she'd say. "I like Intelligence better."
"Well," He kissed her forehead, "Luckily for you, your desk is still waiting for you."
Riley's eyes widened, "Voight didn't replace me?"
She'd been gone for 10 months. After her and Jay got engaged, they announced it to everyone - including Voight. It went very well. Then two months later, Riley had the opportunity to join a task force in New York. She didn't want anything permanent elsewhere, but she liked the idea of trying something out elsewhere. So after discussing it with Jay, she agreed and told Voight. The man supported her, but made a point of letting her know that if it came to - he might have to put someone else at her desk and she'd have to go back to patrol.
So hearing that after 10 months he hadn't brought anyone else in the unit warmed her heart. Maybe it wasn't about her, maybe it was only because he didn't find a good fit - but she was grateful nonetheless.
"No." Jay shook her head lightly, "I think you scared him when you confronted him." He laughed, making her roll her eyes at his teasing tone.
"Oh!" She exclaimed, remembering that she still hadn't told him why she came back so abruptly. Riley jumped up on the bed, sitting on her knees. Jay smiled, resting his hands on her thighs as he looked at her. "There's a reason why I came back so quickly."
Jay furrowed his eyebrows, tilting his head to the side. "What is it?" He asked her, observing how happy she seemed about it. Her expression helped him to not stress out about it, figuring it was good news.
