FLASHBACK

Jay slammed on the breaks, the pick up truck harshly coming to a stop in the parking lot of the motel. He'd gotten there only seconds after Hailey and seconds before the rest of the team. He rushed out of the vehicle, making sure he had his gun and badge before running towards room 8.

He didn't think his heart could beat any faster than it was at the moment, but he didn't let it get in his way. He had to see Riley to make sure she was okay because ever since they told her their ETAs, she hadn't responded. As he stepped foot in the motel room, he yelled out his fiancée's name, praying to God it wasn't her he heard crying in pain.

"Jay!" He heard Hailey's voice, his heart dropping as he started to understand that it was his fiancée's cries he was hearing. He ran to the bathroom, which was on the other side of the room, almost running into the wall. His breath got caught in his throat when his eyes stopped on Riley's body in the bathtub. She was holding her stomach, crying and groaning in pain. There was blood all over her and Jay had never been so scared before.

He didn't even pay attention to what Hailey was doing, only rushing to Riley so he could pick her up and get her medical attention as soon as possible. Jay could feel his hands shaking as he picked her up as gently as he could, feeling her stiffening from how hurt she was. He hated it. He hated knowing she was in this much pain and had he not been so worried, he would've killed Daniel for doing this to her. Only he didn't know Riley already did kill him.

He rushed out of the room with Riley in his arms, walking past Adam, Kevin and Kim to bring her to the ambulance. Luckily for them, two ambulances had been dispatched so one team was going to take Riley while the other would care for Emma. Jay put her down on the gurney, taking her hand in his.

"She's around 18 weeks pregnant, hasn't had any issues apart from Braxton Hicks contractions here and there." Jay informed the paramedics, who took over the examination right away. They were barely putting any pressure on her stomach and she was yelling in pain. Whether it was physical or emotional pain, they were too sure. "Her doctor's at Chicago Med."

"Good, that's where we're bringing her." The paramedic told Jay as they strapped Riley to the gurney, securing it. "You coming with us?"

"Yeah." He didn't even hesitate, helping them roll the gurney inside the back of the ambulance. He stepped in first, sitting behind Riley's head while the paramedic sat next to her. He held her head between his hands to let her know he was there with her. "You're okay, Riley. You'll be okay." He wasn't sure if it was the truth, but he really did want to believe it.

The whole ride to the hospital, he was sure he was going to pass out from how fast his heart was beating. He had never felt so scared in his whole life, not even when he was put in a life or death situation. Jay now understood Riley's fear of uncertainties because now that he was on the other side of it, he was insanely scared. He did what he does best and held his hand while the paramedics rolled the gurney out of the ambulance and into the hospital. He followed them to the room where the doctors took over the care of his fiancée up until they asked him to step out of the room.
