Riley stared at herself in the mirror, turning to the side as she rubbed her growing belly. With her lips pulled into a thin line, she turned her head from side to side to take a better look.
"You look beautiful as ever." Jay said, watching as Riley spun around to face him. He leaned against the doorframe, his arms crossed over his chest while a smile lingered on his lips.
"I heard that usually when a woman is pregnant with a girl, the daughter takes all the mother's beauty so she isn't - or at least she doesn't feel as pretty as she truly is." Riley told Jay, now looking at him through the mirror.
"Well," He started, pushing himself off the wall and walked towards her. Once he stood in front of her, he wrapped his arms around the woman's waist, "I think that's a myth because you still look unreal."
Her cheeks flushed instantly at the compliment, holding her head down as a reflex. He chuckled, putting his fingers underneath her chin pulling her head back up. "You know, I thought my stomach would be bigger by now. I'm almost 24 weeks pregnant, more than halfway there, and it's barely even there."
"It's the normal size for a 24 weeks pregnant woman, Riley." Jay lightly chuckled, knowing that she was truly excited for her bump to be on full show. "One of these days you'll wake up and it'll pop. I'm sure of it." He put a hand on her stomach, feeling the baby kicking. Riley's nose scrunched up as the couple laughed, loving the feeling of their baby. "Hi baby," He whispered towards her belly, a large smile on his face. "You ready to come back to work?"
She let out a heavy sigh and answered with a slight pout of her lips, "Yes, but I'm nervous to see everyone again."
"You saw Hailey while you were on rest." Jay answered, tilting his head back to take a better look at her face. "And everyone's more than excited to see you again. It'll be fine."
Hailey did come by a few times to see Riley. After she told Jay about them having a girl, things were finally back to normal. Hailey visited her friend to offer her support when she was on rest. Since she's been cleared from bedrest the blonde detective brought her shopping for baby clothes - which Riley was more than happy about. The rest of team had told Jay multiple times how jealous they were that Hailey was around to see the bump grow and to support Riley. But they decided not to come by because they didn't want to overwhelm her either. So they supported from afar, sent gifts, snacks and supportive text messages.
She nodded, smiling widely at him. "Yes, yes it will." She now confidently spoke, pressing her lips to his for a few seconds before pulling back and patting his chest. "Let's go."
Jay drove them to the district and walked alongside her as they went up the stairs to the district's entrance. Platt wasn't at her desk, which was really unusual for the woman but they let it slide. Though as soon as they got upstairs, they understood why.
She and Voight stood near the stairs, waiting for them as the rest of the team were around Riley's desk where they had set up gifts and food before the couple arrived. They all stood with smiles on their faces, impatient to greet the couple - and especially Riley.
