"I feel like I'm going to throw up." Riley muttered from her position in front of the bathroom's mirror. She was tying her hair up in a ponytail as she spoke, not thinking about her words twice.Jay whipped around, his toothbrush still in his mouth even though his hands were limp by his side. His eyebrows were raised, as if he was silently insinuating something. Riley frowned at him, unsure about what he thought he heard to look at her that way. Then it clicked.
"Oh, my God, Jay. No, no, no, I'm not pregnant!" She exclaimed, immediately setting the record straight. Her fiancé sighed in relief, raising his hand back up to grab his toothbrush. "I'm nervous."
He spat in the sink, still holding his toothbrush when he turned to look at her. "You're getting called today, Riley, for sure. You had two great recommendation letters, there's no way they're not calling."
Today was the last day to be called back for the detective exam and Riley still hadn't gotten her call. She had been extremely anxious all week about it, after all, she did come back to Chicago just for it. If it didn't happen - she didn't know if she was meant to stay or go back to New York. She already did it for ten months and now she wasn't sure she even wanted to go back. After all, she had Jay here and being so far from him was hard. They'd gotten engaged shortly before she left so they didn't even get to enjoy it. She came down to Chicago whenever she could and he visited her in New York, too, but it was never long enough for them.
The couple never really got to live together either. She knew he was settled in but they never got to enjoy the apartment to themselves - to be together. Riley was definitely looking forward to finally living with Jay. Especially now that they're doing so good.
Things were never actually bad between them, except from that night a year ago. But they obviously made up quickly and the following days of them being engaged they sat down to have a talk about all of her insecurities. The couple talked them out and continued to work on them everyday. And that is how they made their relationship work and thrive through every obstacle that came their way these past ten months.
"Yeah, well," She shrugged, leaning up to kiss his cheek. "In the meantime, we gotta get to work."

Jay poured himself a cup of coffee in the break room, noticing Adam and Kevin standing in the doorway silently. He side-eyed them before putting back the coffee pot and speaking up, "What?"
"It's just that we just started this shift and that's your second one." Atwater stated, referring to the cups of coffee.
Jay lightly scoffed, "What are you two, the coffee police now?" He sarcastically answered, taking a sip of it.
"No, no, we were just wondering..." Kevin trailed off, letting Adam take over the conversation.
"We're thinking it's because of the long distance thing." Jay frowned at his words, confused, so he let him explain himself. "You know, your fiancé's been gone for ten months so we figured it was most probably a case of catching up with each other - only between the sheets." Adam whispered the last part, a teasing smirk on both of their faces.
