Riley walked into the district, looking around her carefully. She figured she could make a quick appearance and leave shorty after without being seen by anyone - but it didn't quite work that way.
"Hey, bridezilla. I really hope you're not here trying to catch a case." Platt called from her desk, making a few heads turn her way. Riley blushed lightly, walking up to the older woman. "Are you trying to make a grand escape? Because if you need a getaway car, I will definitely drive it. But just so you know, I will throw it back in your face whenever I can." Platt warned her, making Riley roll her eyes playfully.
"Not necessary, Sarge." She chuckled, shaking her head. "I'm just here to pick up something and then I'm off." She paused still looking all around them. "And what are you doing here? I thought you were coming."
Platt nodded, "I was just hoping to catch a shift before the wedding, you know, one where I didn't have to watch over your unit or hear you scrambling around up there." The Sergeant explained, "By the way, he's in there." She pointed towards the small office in the corner of the room, walking off.
Riley shook her head, knowing that the desk Sergeant had only been messing with her from the start - making her lose time since she knew exactly why she was there. She smiled to herself, walking to the office. As soon as she saw his figure, her smile widened and she walked right into his arms - hugging him back tightly.
"Hi, it's been so long." She heard him chuckle against her, nodding his head in agreement. "How have you been, Mouse?" Riley pulled away, looking him over. He was dressed in his celebratory army uniform and she felt grateful that he was able to come.
"I've been great, how about you?" He asked, taking her in too. For the short time they worked together, he'd grown to like Riley. Plus, he had to admit that she was the perfect fit for Jay.
"Pretty great, too." She smiled and he could tell that she meant it even though it felt like there was a little something else to it. He didn't comment on it, deciding to leave it alone at least for today.
Truth was, ever since the Roy Walton case a couple of weeks back, Riley wasn't completely feeling like herself. She'd gotten more sleep and started eating properly again. It wasn't eating at her as much anymore - but she still felt that emptiness in her heart. Riley was pretty sure it came from the nightmares she'd been having. Every other night, she had different variations of the same nightmare, one where she lost everything. Either she went to jail or Jay was taking Aurora away with him - sending her divorce papers from afar. The nightmares made her wake up with tears streaming down her face, her heart drumming against her ribcage. But as soon as she woke up, she felt Jay's arms still tightly wrapped around her and suddenly she felt better. She was learning how to deal with it.
"Jay's going to be so happy to see you." Riley told him, helping him grab his bags so they could head back to her car.
"Yeah? He's not going to rip my head off for going back? I remember how mad he was." Mouse chuckled half heartedly as they sat in her car.
