Riley paced around the nursery with her ten weeks old cradled in her arms, bouncing her up and down softly. She babbled incoherent words towards her in order to get a laugh out of Aurora - who had recently started reacting to them.
Jay eventually walked in the room, buttoning up his blue shirt. Riley jokingly whistled at the sight, wiggling her eyebrows. "You look so hot in blue."
Jay chuckled, shaking his head. "You have such a way with words."
She shrugged, smirking. "It's how I got you, isn't it?"
"Oh, yeah, definitely." He nodded, leaning in to press a kiss on her lips before turning to their daughter in her arms, "Hello to you too, little princess." Jay kissed the top of her head, his lips forming a wide O as he mimicked the baby's expression. "Dada's going to work so he can buy you all the toys you want!"
"Without overdoing it, of course." Riley added to Jay's exclamation, the latter playfully rolling his eyes at her. "You're going to be safe out there, right?"
"Of course, baby." He reassured her, wrapping his arms around her and little Aurora. "If you need anything, you call me, okay?"
"I will." She glanced up at him, admiring his features just like she always did before he went somewhere. "Hey, by the way, happy four year anniversary pretty boy."
Jay's eyes widened, "Has it really been four years? Time goes by so fast with you." He jokingly answered, knowing damn well it had been four years but also really meaning it when he said time went by fast with her. He'd never got along so well with anyone in his life and every day spent with her felt like fresh air. "I can't wait to marry you."
Her eyes became glossy almost instantly, the woman blaming her hormones. "I can't wait to marry you. Maybe we should just go to Las Vegas and get married in a chapel, get it over it."
Jay laughed, knowing this was far from what she truly wanted. "Oh, yes. I'll ask Will to play Elvis for us." She joined him in his laughter, nodding her head happily.
"That's all I could ever ask." She jokingly answered, watching him glance at his watch. "You gotta go?"
"Yeah," He answered, almost backing out of going to work once his eyes fell on his fiancée and daughter. This was his first night back to work ever since the little girl was born and he had to admit it felt harder than he thought it would. But they had to lean into their new routine, get used to it before both of them went back to work full time. "What are you going to do tonight?"
She walked with him back to their bedroom so he could grab the rest of his stuff, answering his question. "Hailey's coming over for a while, then I'm gonna get some sleep - if little Miss over here lets me, uh baby?" Her voice lowered into a baby voice at the last part, lightly touching the tip of Aurora's nose. The gesture earned her a giggle from the baby, melting her heart.
