FLASHBACK - 6 MONTHS AGO
Riley walked out of the airport, her bag hunched over her shoulders as she looked for the car that was supposed to be picking her up as soon as she landed in Chicago. It wasn't long before Riley found it, getting in instantly so she could get to her apartment and see her fiancé.
She got there quite late at night, yet she knew he'd still be awake. They called right before her plane boarded and he told her he'd be waiting for her. After all, she was getting there at night and would be leaving the next night so she wouldn't be home for long. They hadn't seen each other in at least two months, so to say they missed each other would be an understatement. Riley was excited to finally see him.
The girl swiftly unlocked the door before pushing it open, "Jay?" She called out, noticing the light above the oven was still on. Maybe he just left it on so she could see in front of her whenever she got there, but she had a feeling there was something more.
And she was right because he was standing in the dining room in front of the table. He had made a candlelit dinner for her. "Hey," He greeted warmly, opening his arms wide for her to run into them. Jay held her in his arms tightly as soon as he felt her arms wrap themselves around his neck, her cheek pressed against his chest. "I missed you."
She hummed, "I missed you, too." She whined, squeezing him shortly before she pulled back so she could kiss him passionately. Jay kissed back with the same passion, his palms running up and down her back trying to feel as much of her as possible. Riley glides one of her hands up his neck to rest on the back of his head in order to cradle his head in her palm. Her second hand slipped under the hem of his shirt, resting against his warm skin.
"We should probably stop if we want to make it to dinner." He mumbled against her lips, half heartedly as his lips kept moving against her making no effort to move back even in the slightest. She hummed, nodding her head without disconnecting their lips.
Eventually he grew the courage to pull back, "As much as I love kissing you and have missed it." He started, cupping her cheeks with his warm hands, "I did not make dinner for it to go to waste."
"Right." Riley nodded, looking at the table behind him with a fond smile on her lips. "I'll happily pick it up after dinner, though." Jay chuckled, pulling out a chair for her to sit on. She happily did so, thanking him. The detective sat in front of her, smiling from ears to ears.
They hadn't seen each other in a while and he was just happy to have her with him for at least a couple hours. And boy, did he have plans for the both of them. The couple spoke about different things, mostly catching up even though they called as much as possible whenever she was away for the task force.
Riley had to admit that the first month she left, it was hard on them. Jay wasn't handling it so well, scared that she wouldn't be coming back - ever. It was the first time Riley felt Jay being insecure in their relationship and she'd have to admit that it scared her a little. For the past two years of their relationship, he'd been the one keeping them afloat - but then he was the one drowning.
