Jay woke up the next morning with Riley snuggled up to him in their bed. After such a long and emotional day, Jay wouldn't have wanted to wake up any other way. He turned his head to look at the woman resting on his chest, observing as the morning sun streamed through the curtains, casting a warm glow on her peaceful face. With his hand that wasn't holding her against him, he reached up to clean the hair from her face. She slowly opened her eyes, her expression a mix of contentment and vulnerability.
Riley gently reached one of her hands up to caress his face, the soft smiles on their lips speaking volumes about how content they were just being there with each other. They didn't need to speak for the other to know, the light touches, the loving looks and the smiles on their faces speaking loud enough.
"Good morning, baby. How are you feeling?" Jay softly asked, pressing a light kiss to her lips.
"Hi," She greeted, kissing him back. "I think I'm okay. It-it's hard to put into words. I'm still a bit confused about it all, to be honest. But I think deep down, I feel good with how things went."
Jay slightly nodded, showing that he understood her. "I understand, baby. I bet it can bring up a lot of emotions. Just know that I'm here for you, no matter what you're feeling or going through. You don't have to navigate through this alone."
"You have no idea how much that means to me, Jay." She told him, pushing herself up slightly so she could lay her body directly on top of his. "Your support means everything, and it's comforting to know that I have you by my side. It makes everything a little bit easier, thank you for being my rock."
"We're in this together, Ri. We're a team so we'll face whatever comes our way as one." He pushed his nose up against hers, rubbing them together lovingly. "I love you."
She couldn't help but smile at him, unable to really put into words how glad she was to have him. Right as their lips touched, their phones rang and cries were heard from the baby monitor. They pulled away, nodding at each other in an understatement that this was their sign to begin their day.
"I got Aurora."
"I got the phones."

Riley and Jay walked up to the scene, heading straight to Kim and Adam who had obviously caught the scene together. "You got this guy's name?" Jay asked once they acknowledge each other's presence with a warm greeting.
"Yeah. BMW's registered to a Jeff Trubin. No priors, single, lives downtown." Kim shrugged, giving them the information they had. "Couldn't get anything. Guy's still unconscious. Pretty brutal beating. I mean, happened inside the car, then maybe somebody dragged him out, beat him some more? I don't know. Maybe it was a domestic? Maybe it was a passenger?"
"This one doesn't really add up." Jay pointed out, lips pulled into a thin line as they all observed the car in front of them.
"2261, can I get a direct mobile to whoever is assigned paper at Astor and Scott? Think I got a related incident."
