The next few weeks were rocky. There was this palpable tension between Jay, Riley and Voight. Riley didn't know that Jay confronted Voight that night and Jay hadn't told her that he knew. She was scared, scared to lose him. She was constantly tiptoeing around him because he wasn't speaking to her and she didn't want to do or say the wrong thing that would result in her losing him.

The couple went to work, came back to their apartment, took care of their daughter, went back to bed and repeated the same routine over and over for those past weeks. They shared a few words, but nothing on Roy, Hailey or Voight. Jay dodged the subject each time and Riley let him. But as they were working a case, standing together behind the glass looking into the interrogation room, Riley had enough of it.

"Okay. You need to talk to me." She sighed, turning to look at him. Riley had barely looked into his eyes ever since it happened. She had trouble living with herself because of it, how could she look into his eyes and not feel remorse?

"Riley, I don't want to do this right now." He tried to dodge it again, but she didn't want to give him the free pass anymore. She needed him to say what he wanted to say and he needed to say it.

"No. We're not doing that anymore. It's not working." She shook her head at him with tearful eyes, "You're angry, Jay. I get that. You should be. But you're ignoring me. You're snaping at Voight. It's... it's the wrong way to handle this."

Jay turned abruptly towards her, making her take a step back in surprise, "Is that what you think? Can I not have a real argument against him? I got to back him all the time because that's what you do?"

"No, I don't. And just because I don't back you when you're challenging him, doesn't mean I'm taking his side. I make my own choices, Jay. No one controls me. Not him and not you." She pointed out, not understanding why he was so angry. Sure, she could partly understand it because she was very obviously hiding something from him.

"I went to talk to Voight, and he told me, Riley." He flatly spoke, making her heart drop.

"Then you'll know that I made my own choices that night. I showed up there with Hailey. But I'm still me. You barely talk to me. I... I don't know what to do anymore." Riley threw her arms up in despair, leaning them back down to her sides.

He shook his head, "I don't know either. But I am doing the best that I can with it, Riley. Right now, this is the best that I got, because you hid it from me and no, you're not still you. So I'm trying, Ri. I really am." Jay didn't say anything else instead he simply walked away and back towards the bullpen. Riley let him this time, quickly wiping off a tear that rolled down her cheek. She swallowed back her sobs, shaking it off to get back to work.

Right before they went home for the day, Voight asked Jay to hang back and meet him in his office - door closed. Jay figured it was about the conversation they had earlier. The one where Voight told him he couldn't have him in his unit if Jay didn't trust him. Jay told him to kick him off the unit if that was the case - that he'd just have to tell the unit why. They didn't talk about it anymore - simply continuing working on the case and ignoring their problems. Voight informed Jay that he found FBI bugs on his, Hailey and Riley's car. Jay demanded Voight tell him exactly what the feds had on them, which turned out to be only circumstantial proof. But Jay knew they would try to make them say anything to make this case - because it involved Hank Voight. After their conversation, Jay went straight back home.
