Name is Aubrey, 13 years old
JJ's POV
"Is she still not up?" Kiera mutters wrapping her hair in a messy bun. "I'll go check. Just finish getting ready for work." I say putting my toothbrush back in the holder before putting on a shirt. "Aubrey Grace Maybank! If you miss the bus you are grounded for a month!" She snaps putting her scrubs on. Kiara got a job at the Outer Banks Hospital as a nurse last week and the house has been pretty stressful in the mornings now. I head toward my daughter's room and knock not wanting to invade her privacy. "Aubs...?" I question not getting an answer. I open the door and roll my eyes seeing a lump under the covers. "Aubrey. Up now. Your Mom is going to kill you, and then me, and then you again." I sigh closing the door. "I don't feel good." She mutters from under the covers. "What's going on?" I question sitting on the edge of the bed. "My stomach hurts. Can I please stay home today?" She whispers. "I have to talk to your Mom. No promises." I sigh. "What are we not promising?" Kiera says walking in and grabbing Aubrey's mascara off her desk. "Are you still in bed? What the fuck Aubrey!" Kie scolds. "My stomach hurts. Can I please stay home?" She whispers taking the covers off her head. "You're fine. It's just your period. Get dressed. The bus comes in ten." She says walking out. "I'm sorry bug. Moms the boss." I whisper kissing the top of her head. "It's a Friday at least. I'll take you out with Uncle JB on the boat tonight." I try to bribe before walking downstairs. "Please make sure she gets to school on time." Kiera sighs kissing my cheek and heading out. "Love you," I call out after her. Five minutes later Aubrey walks downstairs in leggings and a baggy hoodie. "Bye love you." She grumbles grabbing her breakfast and heading out to the bus stop.
3 Hours Later
I am at work when my phone starts to ring. I step out of the mechanic shop and sigh seeing Aubrey's school as the caller ID.
-Hello can I please speak to Mr.Maybank, parent and or guardian of Aubrey Maybank?
-Speaking, that is my daughter.
-Great. So Unfortunately your daughter isn't feeling well. The stomach bug I am assuming, it's been going around. Would you be available to pick her up?
-Yeah. I will be there in like twenty minutes.
-Great see you then. Be sure to bring your photo ID to the front office.
She hangs up and I head to my office to clock out and tell Phil that I have to go. True to my word twenty minutes later I am pulling into the parking lot. Heading up to the office I sign in and they tell me to hang tight while they go grab her. "Here is a bag." The secretary offers handing me a puke bag. "Thanks." I felt terrible for sending her to school today. She told me she wasn't feeling well and I still made her go. World's worst Dad award goes to me. "Hey, Cupcake. How are you feeling?" I say giving her a small smile as she walks into the office. "The same way I was feeling this morning when I told you I didn't feel good." She sasses. "I know. I'm sorry. I should have listened." I sigh slinging an arm around her shoulder and walking outside with her. "What do you want to do?" I sigh getting in the car. "I want to go to bed." She whispers leaning her head against the window. "Alright."I sigh heading home. As soon as the car stops moving she flings the door open and vomits all over the pavement. "Shit ok." I sigh reaching over and pulling back her black waves. "I'm sorry." She whimpers. "I know. There is nothing to be sorry for." I say helping her out of the car. "Why don't you go shower? I'm gonna clean this up and get our bed ready." She nods a little and I grab the hose spraying down the puke covering our driveway. Once I was done I heated her up some chicken broth before setting up my room for her to snuggle in. "Hey, Daddy." She whispers from the doorway. "Hey, baby. Come here." I say patting the spot next to me. Her hair was tangled and soaking wet. "I'm gonna do your hair. Turn something on." I say passing her the remote and grabbing Kie's hairbrush. I brush through the tangles while watching Jesse with her until she falls asleep on my shoulder.
