Hopefully, Y/N had snagged the right key.
He made that mistake a couple of times now. Jax would flaunt the keychain around as if he owned the place (which he sort of did considering he could enter every door) and Y/N would always manage to get one. Truthfully he didn't know if Jax knew he was stealing them, but Y/N made sure the keys returned back to the collection if Jax fell asleep. This haphazard method, however, made grabbing one a gamble each time - each key looked identical, and so Y/N had no way of distinguishing which was which. Most of them were just to places you'd expect. People's rooms, the gate to the Carnival, the many unreliable doors around the Tent. But then there were a couple of doors that just liked to... show up sometimes. Was that what Pomni was talking about with the Exit door?
Y/N didn't like to get his hopes up, especially in the Amazing Digital Circus. Surely there couldn't actually be an exit out of there? He would've found it by now. Surely. Surely.
But let's say, completely hypothetically, this exit door truly did exist and go out into the Void, surely there must be something out there. Like an exit. Caine likes to lock the places that 'spoil' future adventures, which is why Jax always sort of knew what was happening in each. He would egg on Caine, almost prompting him to say one thing or another. Again, Y/N picked up on these things. It may explain why Jax had the keys, but he never gave a clear answer as to why, instead choosing to dance around it or avoid the question entirely. Were Caine and him in cahoots?
Anyway, that doesn't matter. What does matter is this new mystery key Y/N had snagged. He'd have to wait a while for the Moon to rise and for everyone to be asleep, but then would come the long and arduous task of trying the key in every door until it fit. Which may take all night. Welp, not like he needed to sleep anyway. Y/N often roamed around at night. None of them really needed to sleep exactly, and he found it difficult anyway, so Y/N would just wonder solo around the Tent, finding new pockets that weren't there before, spoiling himself of Caine's next adventure or sitting in the Grounds and chatting with the Moon (who desperately flirted with him, as she did with everyone). No one else stayed up that late anyway, so he didn't mind the company.
Y/N passed Ragatha as he was walking to his room, giving her a nod as she locked eyes with him.
Ragatha - "How's Pomni holding up?"
Y/N - "Better, I think. I hope, anyway. Jax wants to leave a centipede in your room, by the way."
Ragatha - "UGH, he better not! He threatened that earlier... do you have any idea why he has those keys?"
Y/N - "I have a couple of ideas, but nothing solid. Nothing worth sharing, at least."
Ragatha - "Aw, can't I get a peak?"
Y/N - "Nope, off limits."
Y/N grinned mischievously as he tapped her shoulder.
Y/N - "I'm gonna go talk to Gangle."
Ragatha walks past him as Y/N approached Gangle's door. He gave the softest knock he could and heard her whimper in response.
Y/N - "Gangle? Ribbons? It's Y/N, can I come in?"
Gangle - "O-Oh, o-o-okay."
Y/N opened the door to Gangle's room, which was a glorified stage setup with what at first glance looks like prop furniture, but upon closer inspection is actually all perfectly functional. The room was dimly lit with only the stage at the back of the room illuminated by a large spotlight. Gangle herself was sobbing on her bed, trying to block her eyes from the spotlight that was shining on her.
