"The military district shelter was built in the mid-20th century. Originally, it was a super-large air-raid shelter. When the disaster began, the military district reopened it at the cost of countless lives and transformed it into a shelter capable of accommodating over a million people within just a few days."

Zhou Rong opened a tablet computer, zoomed in, and displayed a complex floor plan on the screen.

"The shelter was dug eleven stories deep in the shape of a cone and divided into five areas. Area A on the east side primarily houses disaster-affected civilians, Area B on the west side focuses on administration, communication, and energy supply, Area C on the south side is for stationing troops and an arsenal, while the central Area D consists of the underground drainage system and the transportation hub."

"The north side Area E is the most important and has the highest security clearance. It is responsible for medical quarantine and biological virus research."

"As the highest-level secret Unit 118, our identity keys can access the entire A, B, D areas, and under limited conditions, we can enter the E area, which is where the biological research facility is suspected to have experienced a virus outbreak before its collapse."

Zhou Rong drew a line on the map and said, "Our preliminary plan is to enter the central area through the drainage system, and then we'll split into two teams. One team will take the underground light rail to Area B's arsenal." He marked it on the map and said, "Transport supplies and ammunition, preferably with an armored vehicle. This team will be led by Yan Hao, with Xiangzi and Ding Shi."

"The other team will come with me to check the situation in Area C, with the goal of using the base's satellite communication facilities to contact other military district shelters. If necessary, we'll enter the E area and obtain the latest research data on the virus before the biological research facility collapsed. We need to preserve it for future research."

Zhou Rong looked around and asked, "I'll lead this team, with Chun Cao and Yingjie accompanying. Does anyone have any questions?"

Inside the armored vehicle compartment, the special forces formed a circle and crouched on the ground.

As the last trace of twilight outside the car window slowly sank underground, birds filled the sky, and the dark night was approaching. The collapsed ground structures of the shelter gradually disappeared into the shadows.

Si Nan raised his hand, and Zhou Rong pointed with a pen, indicating for everyone to follow closely. Then, he jumped into the knee-deep black water.

The pipe extended straight downward, becoming steeper, and the dirty water gradually rose to thigh level. The underground was pitch black, and you couldn't see your hand in front of your face, with only the helmet's flashlight sweeping around.

The seven of them marched in a line through the water, and the tunnel gradually became wider. The sounds of splashing water echoed through the underground space.

"I was thinking," Chun Cao, who was second in line, couldn't stand the silence any longer and broke it, "since this mission is so dangerous, can we at least chat before parting?"

The distant muffled cries of the zombies timely responded to her.

"..."

Si Nan, who was behind Chun Cao, waded silently through the water. Behind him, Zhang Yingjie smiled and said, "When is it not dangerous?"

"But this time is especially dangerous."

"What is there to talk about?"

After a moment of thought, Chun Cao said, "Let's talk about why we joined Unit 118. I joined because I thought it was cool when I received the conscription letter. What about you, Rong-ge?"
