"Can you hold on?" Chun Cao didn't even look back to ask.

After several hours of tense childbirth, Dr. Zheng was almost exhausted. He was holding a crying baby in his arms and carrying the laboring woman on his back. The heavy load seemed to give him endless courage as he confidently replied, "Yes."

Si Nan whispered, "Be alert, go upstairs."

Chun Cao led the way, the doctor was in the middle, and Si Nan followed. Taking advantage of a brief gap when the zombies moved from the first floor to the third floor, they did their best to transfer to higher floors.

However, even with their utmost effort, this survival team had no speed at all. The footsteps of the zombies downstairs were getting closer, and finally, there was a wail at the corner of the corridor at the end. The zombies had caught up!

Si Nan: "Open fire!"

Chun Cao turned around sharply, aimed, and both of them pulled the triggers at the same time.

Dr. Zheng was just a civilian in peacetime and was scared by the sudden hail of bullets. In the chaos, he felt someone pulling him hard, but in this environment of flying bullets at night, he couldn't even tell if it was a person or a zombie. He instinctively protected the baby.

"Run! Run! Run!" After a few seconds, he finally heard someone roaring in his ear, it was Chun Cao, "Stairs! Go upstairs!"

Dr. Zheng ran forward with the laboring woman on his back. Chun Cao and Si Nan suppressed the zombie horde with heavy firepower while dragging him to the staircase. However, just as they were about to go upstairs, Chun Cao suddenly screamed, "There are zombies on this side too! Be careful!"

Si Nan stood in the hallway, pouring bullets onto the zombies on this floor, and glanced at the lower staircase on the left.

In the continuous flashes of gunfire, another group of zombies was climbing up, howling and swaying!

The situation suddenly turned into a two-sided attack, which was extremely unlucky. Si Nan turned his gun to shoot downstairs while forming a back-to-back defensive posture with Chun Cao. He commanded Dr. Zheng without looking back, "Go up! Run upstairs!"

But Dr. Zheng, carrying both a baby and a laboring woman, was already frightened by the gunfire and flying shells. He stumbled after just a few steps and nearly fell down the stairs.

Wang Wen struggled to open her eyes.

It was very dark, but with the intense gunfire behind her and a faint ray of moonlight leaking from somewhere, she could still see her daughter's face.

The baby was so small, so delicate, with a bright red face, constantly flailing and crying.

She smiled and reached out with all her might.

This is my baby's little face.

This is my baby's little hand.

These are my baby's legs, kicking vigorously.

Great, she thought. My baby will grow up stRong, unlike her useless mother who is dragging down so many capable and kind people in this world, even when she's about to die.

Dr. Zheng climbed up the final step, barely standing still, when he suddenly felt a cold hand patting his back.

It was actually a bit terrifying, but in the critical moment, he didn't even react. He just heard Wang Wen's hoarse and weak voice close to his ear, saying two words:

"Run fast."

Immediately, the weight on his back lightened, and Wang Wen struggled to get down.

"Don't—" Dr. Zheng realized what was happening and shouted in anger, but he saw a shadow tilting and falling straight down from the half-high stair railing!
