As soon as Ning Yu left, the experimental hall instantly darkened, with only a few emergency lights still dimly shining.

It seemed that Ning Yu had considered energy factors when designing this laboratory. Si Nan looked around and contemplated possible electrical circuits. Suddenly, he noticed Dr. Zheng walking towards the corner, picking up the gun that Ning Yu had thrown away earlier.

He came back, not daring to look directly at Si Nan, lowering his head as he attempted to aim the gun at the steel chain in Si Nan's hand.

"..." Si Nan asked, "What are you doing?"

Dr. Zheng returned with the gun. He was not likely to have forgotten it, given his intelligence, but he was convinced that Si Nan wouldn't dare break the handcuffs himself. He assumed that Si Nan's first action upon being freed would be to strangle Dr. Zheng.

"Dr. Ning Yu showed me his preliminary research on the vaccine," Dr. Zheng said in a low voice, struggling with the chain. "He told me he needs your serum to make his vaccine, and I advised him to tell you directly, to get your cooperation."

Dr. Zheng awkwardly chambered a round and said, "But he refused, saying he doubted you would be willing to donate blood because you must have known about the antibodies after your first bite. He also mentioned that compared to him, you would undoubtedly trust Captain Zhou more, and Captain Zhou insists on searching for the government. You will most likely die at sea before finding that non-existent government, which would cut off the only hope for developing the vaccine."

Si Nan repeated, "What are you doing?"

Dr. Zheng was drenched in sweat and said, "Don't move. I'll break the handcuffs!"

Si Nan coldly said, "You'll break my hands before you break the chain." With that, he bit his teeth and exerted force, and the steel chain creaked under the immense pressure.

Dr. Zheng stared at Si Nan as if he were seeing a monster. After several long seconds, there was a sharp sound—crack!

The armrest of the lounge chair suddenly snapped and half of it flew out.

Si Nan held the chain and the broken armrest in his left hand. His wrist was cut, and blood flowed, but he casually licked the blood clean. Then, he took the gun from Dr. Zheng, and bang! Bang! Bang! Four shots, and his hands and feet were completely free.

"You... you..."

"What?" Si Nan said coldly, tossing the empty gun aside. "There's no need to explain."

Dr. Zheng stood in place with his head down, sighing softly for a long time, his voice so low that no one else could hear it.

"... I'm sorry."

To his surprise, there was a response nearby, "It's okay."

Dr. Zheng suddenly looked up and saw Si Nan at the lab table, casually flipping through Ning Yu's notes without raising his head. "You don't have to explain; I forgive you, but I won't trust you anymore. That's how it is."

Si Nan put Ning Yu's notebook into his pocket and glanced around at the lab. He tried to find something valuable to take with him. However, his knowledge of biochemistry was limited, and upon a quick inspection, everything in the lab seemed to be of great value. Reagents, powders, various containers, and even a few sheets of paper with sketches and writing held fleeting inspiration and clues. It was challenging to discern which was more important.

As Ning Yu himself said, he was a murderer, but indeed, he was a murderer with terrible intelligence.

Si Nan furrowed his brow, and suddenly, a vibration came from his earpiece—the locator received a signal!
