Looking through the windshield of the military plane, a strong beam of light projected the silhouette of Si Nan, who was rapidly descending from the night sky, disappearing like a shooting star into the darkness.
Someone shouted, "He jumped!"
Zhou Rong silently put down his binoculars, and through the radio, General Zheng's hoarse voice was heard amid the wind, "Primary mission, bring the antibody carrier back! Capture him alive! Once found, bring him back to the South China Sea immediately! Do you understand?!"
In the cabin, twenty special forces soldiers turned their eyes to Zhou Rong. Captain Kong Ziyin whispered, "Captain Zhou..."
Zhou Rong let out a long sigh and said, "Understood."
He then disconnected the radio, picked up his parachute bag, and walked to the cabin door.
In the dimly lit rear cabin, each soldier was loaded with equipment. Besides the roar of the plane's engines, there was complete silence.
Zhou Rong scanned the soldiers and said in a deep voice, "No more words. After landing, everyone should assemble at the signal flare launch point. Any objections?"
"None!"
Zhou Rong nodded, "Very well." With that, he opened the cabin door and jumped down neatly.
The wind whistled past Si Nan's ears, causing his short hair and collar to flutter. Then, with a loud "pop," his parachute automatically deployed, abruptly slowing his descent. He floated slowly towards the towering treetops, his hand reaching for the dense, pitch-black canopy.
The sound of a waterfall swept past his feet, then receded. The scent of decay and dampness from the forest filled the air.
Si Nan pulled out his combat knife and cut the parachute cord with precision. In the next moment, he slipped out of the harness, tumbled through the dense branches, and grabbed hold of several thick branches to stop his fall, suspending himself in mid-air securely.
One hand held the weight, while the other put on a monocular night vision lens. His right eye was instantly immersed in a world of deep black, dark green, and pale green, with perfect clarity.
Looking up, he saw over twenty parachutes being deployed from the military plane, resembling dandelion seeds floating to the ground.
Looking down, in the deep and vast forest, the footsteps of zombies echoed all around, accompanied by their mournful wails.
"It's really exciting," Si Nan murmured to himself, letting go and dropping to the ground. As he touched the ground, two zombies leaped out from behind the trees. The first one hadn't even touched him when he kicked its chest, shattering its sternum, and it crashed into a tree trunk, motionless. The second zombie had a three-edged blade thrust straight into its chin-neck junction, bursting its brain out. Si Nan pulled the blade free, and it collapsed to the ground with a thud.
He shook the blade to clear the blood and flesh splatter.
Si Nan sheathed the knife, proceeded forward, and suddenly heard a commotion in the distance. Moments later...
Ratatatatatat! Ratatatatatat!
The forest resounded with the barrage of gunfire as the search and rescue team landed, attracting a large number of zombies!
Even though they had taken pheromone suppressants, the fresh flesh and blood of more than twenty soldiers were as dazzling as a searchlight in the middle of the night for the zombies. Zombies within a few hundred meters rushed toward them like evil spirits in the dark. Some couldn't even put on their night vision goggles and opened fire hastily. Muzzles spat out flames continuously, and the rows of the living dead were blown apart, with skull fragments flying through the air.
