Sad and angry at the same time, I stood in the hall of our castle, my long white dress soaked in blood. My family lay dead or fatally wounded on the floor, slumped over tables, collapsed in their chairs. My mother's lifeless body lay in my father's arms, refusing to be carried to his room by the surviving servants, despair etched on his face. At my feet lay my groom, next to him his parents impaled with silver stakes, silent witnesses to the fact that just hours after my wedding, I had become a widow. The battle that had taken place was a treacherously planned ambush when we were most vulnerable. With no weapons at hand, we had nothing but our fangs for defense, which is why our losses were so high. They had betrayed us, our supposed allies. For millennia, we had protected each other and hidden from humans. Eight tribes inhabited this planet, seven of them hidden from view: my people, the vampires; the fairies, elves, lycans, witches, dragons, and nymphs. And now they had attacked us, conspired against us simply because I had married the son of the second most powerful vampire clan. They feared us and allowed themselves to be persuaded by this human man who whispered lies into their ears - that we would seize power and betray them. They should never have allowed him into their midst; humans who discovered us should die, not roam around inciting us against each other.
I hurriedly walked towards my parents, pushing my dead mother away with tear-filled eyes from my dying father. I lifted his frail figure into my arms and brought him to the velvet-covered sofa in the corner.
"Father... don't leave me alone," I pleaded as I knelt beside him and held his hand tightly in mine.
"Princess... you must be strong now. Once I take my last breath, you will lead the vampires. You will become the queen, with all her power," he explained, growing weaker by the moment.
"No, don't say that... I'll remove the stake and then you can feed," I desperately suggested, but he weakly shook his head with a tired smile
. "No, my life is forfeit. The stake was poisoned; you can't save me anymore. But promise me... you will avenge us. You may not be able to destroy their tribes, but you can enslave their sons. Take the respective heirs to their thrones, turn them and make them your subjects. When you have the sons of the leaders by your side, then the time will come for you to conquer all tribes," he explained to me.
"But Father, they don't have any sons, they all have daughters..." I pointed out the undeniable truth to him.
"You are now a fully grown, born vampire. You do not age, you can wait until they have sons. But first, start with the human who is responsible for all of this... Make us proud... I love you, my child..." With that, he finally slumped down. I wept for an hour with my face against his chest until I had no tears left. I harshly wiped the tears from my face with the back of my hand and stood up.
"Where is the human?" I asked a guard standing next to us.
"In the dungeon, My Lady," he replied, and I ran towards the basement. Once I stood in front of the cell, he looked up at me. He was sitting on the floor, seemingly unconcerned despite having 82 vampires' lives on his hands.
"Why? What have we done to you?" I asked him bluntly, and his gaze filled with hatred.
"You feed on humans. Aren't you ashamed? You are godless and a disgrace to every Christian household," he spat at me.
"Is that why? You demanded that others attack us, destroy us because you thought we attacked humans? You fool, we don't drink human blood... we nourish each other. Vampires can only tolerate vampire blood... and do you know what you took from me? My husband, the person who was there to offer me his blood in an act of love. Who will nourish me now? Will you take responsibility?" I approached him menacingly; he backed away until his back touched the wall.
"Uh... well, I'm not a vampire, how am I supposed to nourish you?" he tried to defend himself.
"Oh no, you're not... not yet... Kim Seokjin..." With that, I rushed towards him and bit into his neck...
