"Huh?" was all I could manage, his beaming smile captivated me so much that I forgot why I was here.
"I hope I'm not scaring you, you look like you've seen a ghost.... hey... do you want to see a ghost? I can summon some, I've practiced that much." he explained, bringing me back to reality.
"Who are you?" I asked him, irritated.
"Oh, sorry, I'm just going to start babbling without introducing myself... my grandma used to scold me for talking too much but giving too little information... My name is Hoseok. I'm a witch and I practise my magic here in the forest... Unfortunately not very successfully," he told me. A witch? So far away from his people?
"Why aren't you in the witch forest?" I wanted to know.
"I'm an orphan, I was raised by my grandmother, but she wasn't my real grandmother, she was an elf who found me and took care of me. That's why I have to learn my magic on my own," he explained and I nodded understandingly. If he didn't know any other witches, then he couldn't help me find our witch companion... but I didn't know if he had even been born yet.
"Sorry to hear that... I have to get going, it was nice meeting you." I said goodbye, because I had to concentrate on what I was doing, I couldn't afford any unnecessary distractions.
"Wait beautiful elf girl... you didn't even tell me your name.... And where are you going? To the elven castle in the tree city? I'm coming with you, I have to go there too." He called out and hurried after me, as I had just kept walking.
"My name is Y/N." I said when he caught up with me, trying not to stare at him again, after all, I wasn't here for him.
"So, Y/n... Are we running together? I want to meet up with my best friend... we haven't seen each other in a while and I've been a bit lonely lately." he asked me in a good mood, putting an arm over my shoulder as we walked. Astonished by so much audacity, I looked at his hand demonstratively, but either he didn't take the hint or didn't want to, because he left his hand there and continued chattering away.
"His name is Taehyung and he's often just as lonely, he always just sits around in the garden and looks at the flowers. But not when I'm there, I always make him laugh." His mouth never seemed to be still, but these words made me sit up and take notice.
"Are you talking about the elf prince?" I asked in surprise and he nodded proudly.
"Exactly... Shall I introduce you? He hasn't found a future queen for his kingdom yet and you're really beautiful." Was he trying to set me up here? Don't worry, the prince was mine anyway.
"You would do that for me?" I asked him, still shocked that I would really have it so easy this time.
"Of course... but, then again, I saw you first... why would I leave you to the prince?" he reasoned and I shook my head with a grin. He was really cute.
"And how about I get to know you both and then decide for myself?" I said, laughing softly, to which he raised his eyebrow
"Admit it, you fell for me a long time ago and just want to get to know my friends so they can be our best man?" he speculated, making me giggle.
"You're pretty sure of yourself." I remarked and now he laughed too.
"Listen, you're the first elf, apart from Tae... who isn't afraid of me and my magic. I have to strike." he replied cheerfully, causing the corners of my mouth to lift again and again. He told me his life story the whole way, while I just listened to him silently. He was funny and good-humored, it was really fun to listen to him, I didn't even notice how quickly we arrived at the castle until the guards at the gate bowed to Hoseok before opening it for us.
"Why are they being so deferential?" I asked, looking around again because I couldn't believe how he got in so quickly and without any problems.
"Best friend of the future king... and... maybe... I may have... turned a guard into a rat the other day." he scratched the back of his neck, embarrassed, and I giggled again.
"Hoseok..." a pleasantly warm voice sounded as soon as we entered the garden. I turned towards the spring and paused. Another beauty... the elf prince... he was finally standing in front of me...
