Hoseok PoV
Far away from the others, I crept through the forest, hoping that I would find the spring on my own, as I didn't really trust any of them. They were all nice to me, treated me well, but... the fact that they were planning to kidnap my best friend... all the princes from the other races with them... what was going on? I stayed mainly because Hongjoong could teach me a lot and because I could keep an eye on everything for Taehyung... If he was going to be brought here, it was good to have a friend by his side. So far, they didn't seem dangerous... except maybe the dragon, Namjoon... he'd knocked me down three times now, but that was probably just clumsiness. He didn't seem evil, he was more like a puppy that was too big and kept knocking things over. As soon as I showed up somewhere, they changed their topics, as if they didn't want me to know what they were up to... unless it involved me. But it was obvious they didn't trust me, though the feeling was mutual. What made it worse was that I still felt constantly excluded and envied their bond with each other. I also wanted to share such an intimate relationship with someone... The more I saw how much they loved each other, the lonelier I felt. When their son, Yeosang, had cuddled me like that today, I felt so warm and content, almost like he was a part of me too. But probably my witch powers had reacted to him, since he had some too... from wherever.
"Damn... where's the source? I have to get back to the meeting place soon." I grumbled to myself, annoyed, as I kicked away stones on the ground. Instead of the stone hitting the moss-covered forest floor, I heard a splash. In front of me was a spring with a mysterious turquoise glow. I approached it a little apprehensively, not knowing how to arm myself against what I was about to experience...
It was the right source, I was sure of that, strangely enough, there was no nymph nearby, and I had cast a spell to protect myself from being seduced... Should I have offered that to the others too? Grinning, I knelt down in front of the water... No... maybe this would take a few funny turns when the others met nymphs. My gaze slid across the surface of the water, where the light was reflected off the bottom, distorted by gentle ripples. Carefully, I held a finger in the water and immediately pulled it out again as eddies appeared above the light, swirls that transformed the light into a spiral with new colors suddenly appearing. The water calmed down again, as did my heart, which had started to beat faster in shock. Slowly, I let my whole hand slide in this time. The water began to move again, but this time I was more curious than frightened and when a clear image suddenly formed, my eyes widened.
A beautiful woman could be seen holding a newborn baby in her arms, an old woman was standing right next to her. When I heard their voices, I opened my mouth in shock.
"He would have loved to see his child... Now my poor Hoseok will grow up without a father." Tears ran down the mother's, my mother's... down her cheeks.
"My queen... We must protect your heir. The vampires will come after him, the dreams have prophesied it." the old woman warned.
"But it wasn't the vampires who killed his father, it was the Lycans... why are they turning on us after we helped them against the vampires?" my mother asked.
"It doesn't matter who's more dangerous, but... we should seal his aura and send him to the Elven Forest, he'll be safe there. My sister lives there, she can raise him hidden there." the old woman suggested urgently.
"I know... it's just so hard for me... " she kissed my forehead tearfully, then raised her hand and cast a spell over my baby version, then held it out to the old woman.
"Take it... I can't make it long if I have to see him..." my mom sobbed.
"You can watch him every day, you have the mirror..." comforted the old woman and then the picture disappeared.
So... I... I really was... the crown prince of the witches? I felt sick to my stomach. That was information I should definitely not share with the others... I had to be 100% sure that I really wasn't in danger, after all, my mother had been warned about the vampires...
