Chapter 87. A Promise

I woke up on a soft bed. Without even moving, I felt the familiar warmth of 2 people who have been making a habit of sneaking into my bed lately. Well, we're set to be married in about a week, so I guess I shouldn't mind. It's been 2 days since the duel. Yesterday I spent the day healing the injured at the village's medical center. It wasn't so much a hospital, more like a decent sized house with a few dozen people of all ages in beds all over the place. I healed a few kids who had broken bones, some adults who had serious illnesses and I healed an elderly man and woman who had broken their hips from falling. That was my morning. In the afternoon I reported that everyone was healed. The village chief who was an orange man with 2 horns sticking out of the top of his head began to speak to me after the report.

" Could you by chance, stick around for another day?"

" Why would you need me to do that?"

" Our hunters are coming back from a forest nearby here. If they have any injuries, I was hoping you could heal them?"

I brought the topic to Warrick, and he said it was fine, so I agreed to do it. I spent the rest of the day relaxing with the girls. It was needed after all of the stress of the past few weeks or maybe even the past few months honestly. Everyone was dealing with so much even before I got here. It felt like this was the true first break in a while. We had dinner and instead of the seating arrangements of the first night, I was sat next to Asha and Sharon for some reason. I asked Sarah why from across the table and before I could get an answer, Asha and Sharon both turned to me and said in unison.

" Is it so bad to sit next to us?"

Why are their eyes teary? I surrendered and they both changed from on the verge of crying to smiling happily. What the hell? I spent dinner chatting with them both. Dinner ended and I went to bed alone. And now I'm here. I begin to look at Sarah and Anna as they sleep ever so peacefully. Oh! Anna's eye opened on her arm. It's looking at me. I smile back at it. Anna opens her eyes and looks at me.

" Good morning, Anna."

Anna leaned into me and kissed me.

" Good morning, John."

" Trying to gain an early lead before our wedding, are we?"

Sarah spoke from behind me. I turned around to speak, only to make lip to lip contact with Sarah.

" I can't allow you to one up me and make me lose my position, now can I?

" Not at all Sarah. Please do be vigilant."

" I always knew you'd be a great rival, Anna."

They started to talk amongst themselves.

" Now, now no need to do anything crazy in the morning. Let's wake up. We have a bit of a busy day today after all."

We all got up and had breakfast. Then Sarah, Anna and I waited for the hunters to show up. They did during the afternoon. 1 man was injured so I healed him. As we were walking back to the village chief's house, we heard a young voice behind us.

" Anna!"

By the time we turned around, a little girl with light green hair and red eyes had already jumped up to hug Anna.

" Liz!"

Anna hugged Elizabeth tightly and Elizabeth responded in kind.

" Ah, sisters are the best when they're that age."

" I'm sure Cynthia will still have her moments."

" Oh, are you trying to say you find my little sister cute, My Love?"
