Once the waiters had arrived and taken the used dishes off of the table, I asked them to provide us with the necessary spoons and bowls for the ice cream to be served. The waiters didn't seem to hear me so I repeated myself, only to be met with silence.
" Do as he asked of you. Don't embarrass us, Marsh."
" As you command, Your Highness!"
The King backed me up and caused the waiter was frightened and answered the King. The waiter ran to the kitchen along with the other 2 who collected the dishes.
" Sorry about that, Matthew."
Delcan apologized to me about the waiter's attitude, I could tell that the Royal Family as a whole felt the same way as Delcan but didn't voice it since so many guards were watching us. I guess they didn't want to make it seem like they were apologizing for their entire culture to a foreigner, even if they were getting along with me now. I decided to try and lighten the mood and say that it didn't bother me too much.
" It's fine. I'm used to things like this. When I was traveling to fight the Hero, I wasn't even allowed to sleep in the same building as the rest of my traveling companions."
" That's outrageous!"
" Tell me about it."
" Truly there were nothing but fools during that journey."
Charlotte yelled, shocked at the story of my experience last year. I wonder how she'd react if she knew I was poisoned during that journey as well. We never did find out who did that, did we? Sarah and Anna also chimed in with their feelings on the subject. I decided to remind them of the highlight of that journey though.
" It wasn't all bad for me though."
" How so?"
Delcan asked me for the reason, I couldn't help but smile at the memories.
" I was able to camp out in the night with Sarah and Anna for most of my stay in the villages and towns we entered."
"My Love..."
" Darling..."
My words caused my wives to blush lightly.
" That still doesn't excuse the actions of those Lords!"
Charlotte without realizing it, ruined the nice mood I just made with my wives. I turned back to her as she began to continue her thoughts on the matter.
" You chose to protect their country, their lands! Even their very lives and the lives of their loved ones! Yet, they couldn't see through that and treated you like a flea infested dog! How could you even think to help them after that!?"
Charlotte seemed to be really emotional for some reason. I was confused for a moment. I guess she forgot about earlier in the day, when I said the Hero and I were always fighting and that was my chance to get back at him. I looked at her and began to speak slowly in an attempt to calm her down.
" Charlotte, you do remember how I told you guys about how I wanted to fight the Hero right? I didn't just go to fight him out of the kindness of my heart. I had reasons to do what I did."
" Yes, but did you ever tell those Lords about your reasons?"
" Well... No?"
" Exactly! So, they only had to have known that you were doing that! Yet they still treated you like that! Where's the honor in that!?"
Charlotte's eyes were a little wet as she spoke. I guess ideas like propriety and honor are big issues for her. It'd make sense considering it seems no matter what she does, she can't seem to gain the acceptance of her people. I guess that's where our differences start.
