" So, do you have any other questions?"
The Queen spoke to me as I thought about how to ask the next question. Hopefully this doesn't sound too rude.
" Why is Charlotte treated differently than the rest of the Royal Family by the people?"
Again, the Royal Family froze at my question. This time it wasn't from shock, it seemed more like I touched a sensitive topic rather than asking something unexpected.
" What do you mean?"
Delcan asked, I guess he wanted to avoid the question somewhat. I decided to explain how I came to the question.
" Well, when Charlotte showed herself and charged against me, when I stopped her. No one helped her or even tried to besides you guys. At least until you realized I wasn't going to hurt her. But the crowd... even though she's a Princess they did nothing. They were getting ready to assist the guards when Leonard thought I was trying to get 1 over on him. Combined with that, they had a similar look in their eyes when looking at Charlotte as they did when looking at Sarah and Anna when she was reprimanding them."
" From all of that, you gather that something is wrong?"
" I figure there must be something that links them, but I have no clue what it is."
" So, it's a puzzle you wish to solve?"
Delcan continued to ask me questions about why I asked the question. I looked around the table and saw that the Royal Family didn't seem too ecstatic to be talking about whatever the reason is.
" Look, if you don't want to speak about it, we can just not talk about it if you want?"
My words reached the Royal Family, but they still seemed to be... Uncomfortable? I looked at Sarah and Anna and they seemed to be as confused as I was.
" Oh, enough of this!"
Charlotte spoke in frustration at her family.
" Char..."
The Queen spoke and seemed to want to comfort Charlotte, but before the Queen could do anything, Charlotte spoke to me.
" It's because I have a non-magic related Job."
Charlotte spoke with annoyance in her voice and a touch of melancholy.
" Your faces say you 3 don't understand."
" You'd be right."
I agreed with Charlotte's assessment of Sarah, Anna and I's reactions. I mean... Why would that cause any kind of discrimination or singling out. I mean... For comparisons sake, Demons are all mostly physical based fighters-
" You just compared me to Demons, didn't you?"
" Ah..."
Charlotte apparently read my thoughts.
" You sure you can't use magic?"
" It doesn't take mana to read your eyes, Matthew."
" You were watching my eyes?"
" No!"
Ah, I embarrassed her again. She had a slight blush form on her cheeks as her family began to share a warm laugh at her reaction. It's nice to see that her family seems to at least treat her like a member of the family and haven't ostracized her like those people from earlier in the day. I cracked a smile at the scene in front of me. It felt warm, it reminded me of my own family. Of my adopted family and I hoped my family with Sarah and Anna, in the future, would turn out to be something close to them.
