Chapter 39- On the Edge

Manik's POV: 

''What are you saying Cabir?'' I couldn't believe what he said. ''You can't get rid of Navya by saying that you are married'' Nandini said. ''Why would I lie to you, this is the biggest truth of my life Nandini. I'm married for 8 years now'' Cabir confessed. ''What! 8 years?'' I was really shocked. ''I can't believe this, Navya will be heart broken hearing this'' Nandini said. ''That is why I chose not to tell it to her'' Cabir has a point. ''Hua kya hai Cabir! I mean why did you chose to hide about your married life?'' I asked him. At least share karne se uska dard thoda kam hoga. ''I come from a conservative middle class orthodox family Manik, these films and page3 life is a taboo topic back home. When I first told my family that I want to get into this field, the first thing they did is taking me to a baba ji. I was hell bent on making them agree. They thought I will be out of their hands if they send me out. You don't even know Mumbai jaisi shehar mein apne sapne lekar aana kitna mushkil hai, I've put my blood and sweat in what I believed. Kitne directors, producers aur film studios ko roz roz chakkar lagakar thak gaya hai maine'' Cabir said. 

''Then came Navya into my life. Uski family rich nahi hai, par itna ameer hai ki wo log mujhe sirf financially nahi, mentally, emotionally bhi support kiya hai. Navya's father was a kind man, he took my responsibility as I had just helped them once. After her father's death, Navya struggled to make ends meet. Usko films ke baare mein kuch nahi pata, but she did it for me. Usne bahut odd jobs kiya hai. I know wo mujhse kitna pyaar karti hai, but I always hoped that she would never say it. Agar usne bol diya tho main mana nahi kar paunga. I would have to forcefully put an end to our relation and I didn't want it. I don't want to give a name to our relation or my feelings towards her, I just wished ki so humesha khush rahe'' Cabir said. Who can understand this better than me now. Even I don't want to give a name to my feelings for Nandini. ''Phir tumhara wife?'' Nandini asked. ''Mujhe uske chehra aur naam ke alawa kuch pata nahi, after marriage I only went 4 times to my home town. But she was waiting for me since 8 years, I can't leave her for Navya'' he said. ''Then you are not only doing wrong with Navya, but also with your wife and yourself too'' Nandini said. ''Tum theeno khush nahi reh paoge'' she said. ''I know I had to be strong, I can't hide about my marital status for long now, maa papa said that they will come to see my first film on release day, she will also come along with them and would stay with me hereafter'' Cabir declared. ''Par Cabir'' Nandini was saying something but Cabir interrupted her. ''Ye sach Navya ko tumhi batana, I won't be able to say anything to her'' Cabir said and that marked the end of our conversation.

Kitna ajeeb hai na, I can clearly see my future in Cabir now. No, it can't be me. Main sirf Siya se pyaar karta hu. It's not like I don't acknowledge my feelings for Nandini but more or less it may be due to physical attraction. Kuch din dhoor rahunga usse, sab theek ho jayega. Cabir sat there and looked aimlessly. Me and Nandini came aside to have coffee. ''I had a small hope till today, but after listening to Cabir...'' she didn't complete her sentence. ''Hope nahi tho life nahi hai Nandini, don't ever lose hope'' I said. She looked at me like I'm a stranger. ''I'm so sorry, pichle kuch dino se jo bhi chal raha hai, I was at fault, mujhe laga dono dhoor ho jaye tho they will miss each other and get sooner together. I didn't realize ko Cabir ki life mein already koi hai'' I said. I should actually apologize Nandini for misunderstanding her. Or do I feel bad as Nandini did not have any sort of feelings towards me. I'm no special to her. Just like Dhruv, Cabir, Aryaman and Rohan, Manik also exists for her. Ye ladki ke liye main humesha ek confused zone mein rehta hu. Till yesterday I was guilty as I felt like I'm cheating on Siya with my feelings for Nandini, but now I'm actually frustrated that Nandini has no special feelings for her. Amidst all of it, there is still a hope for me and Nandini. Yes, we can still be friends.

''No Manik, you were actually right. Cabir and Navya have stayed away from each other for a while now, tabhi tho Cabir accepted that he loves Navya but can't express as he is already married. Agar married nahi hota tho Navya ka proposal ussi din accept kiya hota'' she said. ''Nandini, how can you be so bipolar! Just now you said there is no hope for Cabir and Navya but you are saying that if he is not married, he would accept Navya. Shaadi nahi hoti tab na! He is already married, so wake up'' I said having first sip of coffee. ''What if Cabir never loved Navya and loves only his wife! Then hope kya chance hi nahi hoti. Cabir is sacrificing his love, which means he loved Navya so much'' she said. ''Nandini, pyaar mein na, you don't have to look for excuses to be with each other. In love, you should not miss but feel the person in his absence. Not just live for him, make sure you can't live without him'' I said.
