Lindsey gripped her bag tighter as she stepped out of the elevator. The sound of her heels fell deaf to her ears as she made her way into the bullpen. She ignored the looks of the agents around her as she made her way up the stairs and into the round table room.

Her team was already in there, standing around the table. "Lindsey, you're here." Penelope said but the look on his face was a sad one. "Of course. After I got Hotchs call I got on the earliest flight I could. Where's Hotch?"

"He's talking with the State Department. Trying to figure out what JJ was doing that year she was gone." Alex said.

Everyone in the room was quiet for a moment, looks of sadness and anger mixed on their faces. "So uh...what do we know so far?"

Rossi was the first to speak, "JJs kidnapping has to do with her time at the State Department." Lindsey's brows furrowed, "But that was over a year ago. Plus I thought it was just a liaison job."

"That's what we thought too. Looks like it was a lot more than that." Derek said and Spencer added, "Will told us that Cruz would know what happened to her but when we went to contact him, he never answered. We checked his home and he's not there."

"Wait," Lindsey spoke with a confused look, "Cruz? As in the new Section Chief?" The group all nodded.

"I'm trying to pull data off of JJs phone. But it's like level 9 security. It would make Snowden weep." Penelope told them as she looked up from her computer. "What about cell phone records?" Alex asked.

"Encrypted. JJ's and Cruz's."

"That's not surprising if they worked for the State Department." Rossi said and Derek added, "But if that assignment was a backstop, then JJs transfer as D.O.D liaison was her cover."

"So what was she really doing that year?"

"That's the first question Hotch is gonna ask. Strauss was pressured by the executive branch to push JJs transfer through. So she would have known the reason why." Derek said and then Spencer spoke again, "Any assignment Strauss authorized would be archived in the SCIF."

Penelope looked up from her computer again, "That facility is code word classified." Derek turned to her, "But Anderson can get you in. He archives those reports. Blake, Rossi, JJ couldn't have used the SCIF without drawing attention. She probably has it foxholed right here in the BAU. We just need to find it."
