Buzzkill 🚨
2 months later...
Lindsey followed Athena to Captain Maynard's office. She knocked before opening the door. "Captain Maynard, you wanted to see us?"
Maynard nodded at Athena's words, "Athena, Lindsey, thanks for coming."
One of the two men sitting across from Maynard stood up and held out his hand. "Sergeant Grant. Officer Scott."
"It's actually Buckley, now." Lindsey corrected him as she shook his hand.
The man smiled, "Congratulations." Lindsey thanked him and then he went on to say, "I'm Assistant United States Attorney Spencer, district of California. This is my colleague from Arizona, AUSA Lawrence."
"Athena," Maynard spoke up, drawing the attention to her. "These men have a special assignment for you specifically. I figured you'd want Lindsey with you for the assignment."
Athena nodded and then turned back to Spencer, who said, "Sergeant, Officer, have a seat." Both women hesitated before taking the open seats by Maynard's desk. "How much do you know about Maxwell Fulton?"
Athena raised a brow, "The sex trafficker?" Both men nodded. "As little as possible. Beverly Hills broker, went away about a year ago..." Lawrence handed Lindsey a folder as Athena continued to say, "for pimping underage girls to his bigwig buddies."
Lindsey started flipping through the files. Spencer went on to say, "You may not have heard he hanged himself in federal prison last week in Phoenix."
"I'll cry later," Athena said nonchalantly. "What does this have to do with me?"
Lawrence spoke up this time, "Well, Fulton had a cellmate, a prisoner we assigned him in hopes he'd open up. At trail, Fulton refused to ID any of his investors who, uh..."
Lindsey raised a brow at the man, "Raped those girls."
"We'd like you two to escort that prisoner from Phoenix back here to LA to be deposed before a grand jury."
"It's Dennis Jenkins." Athena's head whipped around to look at Maynard.
It was quiet for a moment before Spencer spoke again. "We're aware you have a history with Mr. Jenkins. He murdered your friend-"
"My fiancé," she corrected in a quiet tone and Lindsey reached out to give Athena's had a comforting squeeze. "Dennis Jenkins...murdered my fiancé. And he got away with it for more than 30 years until I found him and brought him to justice. And now he has made some kind of deal with the federal government?"
