"How was golfing with Gerrard?"
Bucks face twisted as he closed the door. "Weird...very weird." He stepped further into the kitchen, moving toward the table where Lindsey was sitting. He slid into the chair across from her, giving a quick kiss to Adelia's soft, blonde curls as she snacked on Cheerios in her high chair.
"He calls me his 'little buddy,'" Buck said with a dry laugh, shaking his head as he tried to make sense of it.
Lindsey's nose scrunched up in disgust. "That is weird... But hey, at least he's not punishing you anymore, right?"
Buck sighed, leaning back in his chair. "Yeah, instead, he's letting me choose who to fire."
"What?!" Lindsey's eyes widened
"Oh yeah," Buck raised an eyebrow, his lips pulling into a grim smile. "Apparently, the department needs to make some major budget cuts. Because I saved his life, he's 'letting' me make the call on who goes." He ran a hand through his hair, clearly frustrated by the situation.
Lindsey sighed as she took in Bucks words. "I mean...at least you're not one of the options."
"Yeah, but I don't want to be the one to make the decision." The frustration was clear in his voice.
Lindsey leaned forward, studying her husband's expression. She could see the stress in his eyes. She reached out to grab his hand, "I know. It'll be okay. Who knows, maybe Gerrard will be the one fired."
Buck squeezed Lindsey's hand, his lips curling into a small smile, "One can hope." He sighed before adding, "But enough about Gerrard. How are you? How's your head?"
"My heads good. No more headaches, which is great. The doctor said the stitches can come out soon." She told him as she reached to put more cheerios on Adelias tray. "Also," she smiled, "we have a showing on Saturday for that house on Sunset Ridge."
Buck gave a nod, a knowing smile tugging at his lips. "That's the one with the huge windows and the wraparound porch, right?"
Lindsey smiled playfully, raising an eyebrow. "And the big backyard and multiple bedrooms... perfect for when we eventually need more space for a couple more little ones running around." She glanced at him, a teasing glint in her eye.
Buck's smile softened, his eyes meeting hers with a warmth that made her heart skip a beat. "Well, when you put it like that," he said, his voice lowering a bit, "it sounds perfect."
A high-pitched giggle, followed by a string of babbling sounds pulled both of them out of their conversation.
Buck and Lindsey turned in unison, their faces lighting up with amusement.
