"I'm often asked...what is it that makes us different? What separates firefighters from ordinary citizens? The answer is simple. We will go where others will not. Today, we honor those members of the LAFD who acted so courageously during the Oceanus Blue cruise ship disaster last March."
A smile had spread on Lindsey's lips as she watched each member of the 118 receive their medal.
"Firefighter Evan Buckley." The Chief called and Lindsey cheered the loudest as Buck made his way up to receive his medal. Adelia, who had been sitting in Lindsey's lap, giggled as Lindsey grabbed her little hands and moved them in a clapping motion.
Bucks eyes shifted to his girls and his smile grew as he shot Lindsey a wink.
"Without their singular tenacity and selflessness, and unmatched skill and teamwork, so many more lives would've been lost. Firefighters, on behalf of the Los Angeles Fire Department of the City of Los Angeles, we thank you."
Everyone stood and clapped for the team before the Chief added, "But we're not quite done. The quality of teamwork displayed here is a reflection not only of each individual's dedication, but the leadership of Captain Robert Nash. Captain Nash, for your record of outstanding service and leadership, in and out of uniform, the Los Angeles Fire Department would like to honor you with this Medal of Valor. Captain."
There were more claps as Bobby stood up to receive the medal. But rather than wear it he asked to hang on to it. He made his way up to the mic and said, "Um...This isn't the first time these people have pulled me out of the drain. In more ways than one. Not sure why I deserve a medal for it. In my opinion, you got it right the first five times."
Bobby nodded at his team and started to clap, everyone following suit. Lindsey shot Athena a look who just shrugged and shook her head.
Lindsey's eyes drifted back over to Buck who was talking with Eddie and Chimney.
"Go."
"Huh," Lindsey's brows turned to Athena in confusion, "what?"
Athena reached out and picked up Adelia from Lindsey's lap, "Go. I got her."
"Are you sure?"
Athena raised a brow, "I'm positive. Plus, i'm sure Bobby could use so grand-baby time. Now go."
Lindsey gave her a thankful smile, before shooting out of her chair. Her heels clicked against the ground as she made her way over to Buck.
