The human mind is really the scariest thing of all.

"Okay, so how do we calculate linear acceleration between points A and B?" Ms.Warren asked the class, shall squeaking against the board.
Flashs hand shoots up immediately. "Flash." She calls on him
He grins like he's about to change the world. "It's the product of sine of the angle and gravity divided by the mass." He says
"Nope" I murmur under my breath, already knowing how this ends.
"Wrong" Ms. Warren says, and I bite back a smile.
"Peter." She calls next. He blinks like someone just woke him from a dream. "You still with us?" She asked
"Uh- yeah, yeah." He fumbles, then clears his throat. "Mass cancels out, so it's just gravity times sine." He says
"Yep" I whisper again.
"Correct." Mrs. Warren says.
"See, Flash? being the fastest isn't always the best if you are wrong." She said and the class laughed.
Flash glares at Peter and mouths "You're dead" he said
I almost laughed. Almost.
"Let's move to the next question." Ann says, flipping through her notes. "What is the heaviest naturally occurring element?" She asks
Someone rings the bell. "Hydrogen's the lightest. That's not the question. Okay. Yeah." He stumbles
"It's Uranium." I murmur quietly to MJ.
"Uranium." Abraham answers
"That is correct. Thank you, Abraham." Ann says, and MJ glances at me curiously. "Why don't you ever answer out loud?" She asks
I just shrug. Easier to stay quiet. Easier to stay invisible.
Across the room, Mr. Harrington is already pleading with Peter. "Peter, it's nationals. Is there no way you could take one weekend off?" He asked
"I can't go to Washington because if Mr. Stark needs me, then I have to make sure that I'm here." Peter says
My eyebrows lift.
Flash scoffs. "You've never even been in the same room as Tony Stark." He says
And there it is. The final piece of the puzzle I've been pretending not to solve.
He's awkward. He disappears randomly. He's always tired. And that voice- the one that stopped me on the street that that- It knew it. I knew it was him.
Peter Parker is Spider-Man.
I could read his mind just to be sure. But....he's my friend. My first friend. And for now, I'll respect that boundary.
