Peter told me his plan.
The one about showing up to Ann's party.... As Spider-Man.

I told him it was the dumbest idea I'd ever heard.

He said he was going it anyway.

So I stayed home.
Parties weren't my thing- too many people, too many eyes, too little space to breathe.

I was sitting on my bed, reading, when my phone rang,

"Hey, Peter, what's up?" I answered casually.

His voice came through, frantic.
"Hey- yeah, I'm good- no, no, I'm not good! I'm being shot at by space laser things!" He yells

I shot upright.
"What? Where are you?" I ask

No response, just chaos in the background.

I threw on a hood, heart racing, and took off flying toward the signal. The air was cold against my skin, sharp, alive.

Then I heard it- his scream.

"Peter!" I scanned the night, using my powers to lock his energy. He was falling. Fast.

I pushed harder, but before I could reach him, Tony swooped down in his suit, cutting through the sky like a little steak of light. He dove straight into the water and pulled Peter out, soaked and tangled in a parachute.

I stayed back, hidden behind the glow of streetlights until Tony left. Then I ran forward.

"Peter!" I yell

He turned, blinking away water on his eyes.
"Elizabeth!" He yelled.

I hugged him tight, ignoring his drenched he was.
"Are you okay?" I ask

"Yeah, yeah, I'm good- There was this guy, he looked like a vulture. He picked me up, flew me really high, then dropped me. I got stuck in the parachute, but Tony- got me out of the water" he spoke so fast I almost laughed.

"Okay, so- new villain guy. Got it" I said

He nodded, still catching his breath.

We started walking back. The silence was heavy until I broke it.

"What'd Tony say?" I ask

He sighed.
"Basically told me not to go after him. Said to stay, and I quote 'just a friendly neighbor spider man'. " he said

I burst out laughing.
"That sounds exactly like Tony" I said

"Yeah-" he started, then stopped. His eyes caught in something glowing faintly in the grass.

We walked closer. It shimmered purple, pulsing like it was alive.

"Woah" Peter whispered.

"What in the tarnation is that?" I asked without thinking.
