It's been a year since everything with the vulture. A year of quiet. A year of pretending to be normal.
I turned sixteen a few days ago. Technically one hundred and eight, but, you know- semantics.
Today was field trip day. Midtown's favorite excuse to throw us all on a bus and pretend we were just normal kids seeing museums instead of superheroes hiding in plain sight.
I was halfway through putting on mascara when there was a knock at my door. I could already sense who it was.
"Come in!" I yelled, flicking my wrist. The door swung open in its own.
Peter stepped in, eyes darting between me and the completely empty backpack lying on my bed. "Uh, Lizzie....You do know we have to leave in, like, two minutes, right?" He asks
"Yeah, I'm ready! Just putting my mascara up!" I called from the bathroom.
He glanced back at the bag. "Your bags literally empty" he said
I walked out, raised a brow- and in five seconds flat, everything flew into the bag and zipped itself up. "Done" I said
He blinked. "I forget you can do that sometimes" he said
"Me too, honestly " I smirked.
Five minutes into the trip, I was already slumped against the seat. "I'm bored already." I muttered
"It's been five minutes" Peter said, giving me that you're impossible look.
"Okay, andddd?" I ask
He laughed. "You're unbelievable" he said
"You're right about that" I said
Then- something hit me. A pulse in the back of my mind. The kind that wasn't mine. I turned toward the window.
And I saw it.
A massive ship hanging over the city, blotting out half the sky.
I looked at Peter- he was already staring back at me. "You ready?" He asked
"Yep" I said
We didn't hesitate. I threw open the bus window.
"Ned, hey. I need you to cause a distraction." Peter said
Ned didn't even blink. "Holy shit! We're all gonna die! There's a spaceship!" Ned yelled
Chaos broke loose. Everyone screamed and pressed against the windows. I waved my hand, sending a soft ripple through the air- and everyone on the bus instantly forgot Peter and I were ever on the bus.
"I gotta change into my suit!" Peter shouted as we jumped.
I smirked, changing into mine in an instant with my powers.
