My eyes slowly fluttered open, all I saw was a blur. Immediately, I woke up with a pounding in my head and a ringing in my ears, along with a sharp pain in my shoulder. I shifted my body a little in response.NICK:
"Clay—"My friend's voice was foggy. After blinking a few times, my vision became clear. I saw Sapnap and George standing over me in a hospital room.
CLAY:
"W—What happened...?" I asked weakly.NICK:
"You were in an accident. Do you remember any of it?"George left quickly to get a nurse, meanwhile I tried piecing together a sentence.
CLAY:
"Um..." I breathed out while trying to keep my eyes open, "Yeah...Y/N was driving and..."I slowly glanced down at my shoulder, remembering Mason shot me.
CLAY:
"Mason..." I whispered.NICK:
"What?"CLAY:
"Mason shot me...Y/N was driving us away and she said...wait—where is she? Is she okay??" I tried sitting up, but all that did was make me wince due to my shoulder wound, along with car accident wounds, making Sapnap's eyes widen.Shortly, George came in the room with a nurse. Once she checked me out and gave me medicine for the pain, she left. I felt my eyes get heavier.
CLAY:
"Where's Y/N?" I asked again. They exchanged nervous glances at each other.
NICK:
"Clay, just rest for now." His voice made me even more nervous.CLAY:
"No—where is she??" I raised my voice.George sighed nervously while looking down.
NICK:
"She's in a coma, Clay...and she needs a kidney transplant...if she doesn't get one...she's gonna die..."My eyes widened as I felt my heart getting ripped out of my chest. I began to breathe heavily as my brows came together in sadness. I shook my head, my mouth hung open in shock.
CLAY:
"No...""I couldn't protect her..." I thought to myself.
CLAY:
"No, no, no..." I whispered in defeat while titling my head down.Sapnap instantly came over to me, giving me a gentle yet warm hug to comfort me, but it didn't do anything to stop the pain in my heart.
•••••
Hours passed as I got some rest. When I woke up, I remembered what Sapnap said.
"She's in a coma, Clay...and she needs a kidney transplant...if she doesn't get one..she's gonna die..."
Those words kept replaying in my head. I couldn't stop the tears from running down my face. I stared at the wall across from me as I sat silently with my hands in my lap.
In this moment, I remembered what Y/N yelled to me, just before the accident.
She shouted with anger, telling me that the son she lost was ours, and the husband she lost was me, just in an "original timeline".
I was shocked, but deep down, it made sense.
It made sense for her to be my wife in another universe. After all, ever since we danced that one night in the ballroom, a part of me has always loved her. Even when we met at the park, I could sense a vibe from her, a warm one, full of love.
