Chapter 5

As promised Nate drove home to check on his sister, she was basically the only person he had in this world.
He could see the fear in her eyes when she heard about the marriage arrangements.

He'd never understand why their father would make such an arrangement without telling either of them, not even Su that was the person involved the more in the contract

Maybe because he didn't want any of them to oppose not that they could, him especially.
He knew better than to go against their father, he knows the consequences of making such a move.

He didn't really find much in his online investigation last night, but he already knew enough to know that Spade was not a good person for his sister, and their father knew this, but he was too greedy to care

Unlike the previous day, he didn't find his sister in the kitchen, he had to go meet her upstairs.
Lucky for him, his father wasn't in sight either.

He walked up the stairs and through the hallway, his steps quickened because the last thing he wanted right now was to have a run in with his father, he didn't have to know he was home

He held the contract under his arm as he knocked on his sister's door, praying she opened the door quickly for him, so he could go in

Less than a few seconds after he knocked, she opened and smiled up at him before stepping aside for him to walk in.
He walked in and went straight to the bed to sit down

He let out a sigh of relief as he sat down
"What? No hug for your favorite sister"? His sister's voice made him look up, she had a smile on and her brows cocked sideways.

"You're my only sister Su" he muttered giving her a pointed look, she just sighed before walking towards him on the bed and pulling him in for a hug

"Well, if you're not gonna give me a hug, I'll give you one" she muttered making him chuckle lightly, before wrapping his own arms around her

She pulled away before her eyes landed on the file in his hands
"You brought work here"? She asked pointedly and he just sighed out and shook his head.

"No, this is uh..." He paused trying to think of a way to tell her "this is the contract" he muttered looking at her, she was even more confused than before

"What contract Nate"? She asked and he just sighed out

"The binding contract between Spade and Dad" he muttered and she swallowed her face going pale

"You mean the contract that will automatically get me stuck with Spade forever"? She asked and he just sighed out and nodded
"Why do you have it"? She asked

"I wanted to check for any loopholes, something that can make you get out of this" he muttered

"And...? Did you find any"? She asked and he just shook his head

"No, it's all very straightforward and very legal" he muttered his eyes drifting to the file again, it really was very legal, there was no loopholes or fault that he could point out

"So does that mean I get to marry him"? She whispered her voice laced with despair, he just sighed out and put his hands on hers

"I.... I don't know Su, I can't... I can't find anything that I can use against him, I've checked and even asked a few people but there's nothing on this guy that's solid enough to blackmail him with or negotiate with him" he whispered feeling the guilt deep in his gut, he didn't want his sister to end up with Spade, but he was running out of options and he couldn't just outrightly walk up to his father and tell him he didn't like the idea of his sister getting tied down to Spade.
