"We're not gonna be la—"
"You fucking twats! You are so late! I knew I couldn't trust you with being godparents!" Kayden's voice said sharply across the hospital floor and Kai audibly gulped
"He's going to be a great dad" Jaehyun snickered beside Kira and she chuckled, leaving his side to go hug her brother who was visbily exhausted
"Our flight was delayed...so...can we...?" She trailed off
"Yeah, just be quiet though. She's still asleep" Kayden said and Kira squealed, unable to hide her excitement
"I feel like I'm walking on eggshells" Haerin whispered as the four of them snuck into the hospital ward where Emily was fast asleep, tired out from labour.
"Did the doctors say anything?" Jaehyun asked and Kayden smiled, walking to the crib to coo at his new baby
"She's completely healthy and the perfect weight. The labour wasn't too long either but it was such a pain getting her to sleep" Kayden said, lifting up her tiny little body into his arms before turning to his sibling that looked more like children than the newborn.
"Oh my god" Kai said and Kira gasped with a hand over her mouth
"Is that her?" Haerin asked and Kai tried his best to bite back a sarcastic remark to not ruin the moment
"She's—she's so small" Kira said, eyes almost welling up with tears
"Yeah she is...baby Jenny everyone" Kayden said softly with a smile, walking closer to them
"She's beautiful" Jaehyun smiled, patting Kayden's shoulder while the other three remained frozen in their place
"I know, I can't take my eyes off her" Kayden said
"Don't. Next thing you know they're five and spilling hot chocolate on the carpet" Jaehyun said as he reminisced the first day he saw Jihye as well. While he never made it to the labour room for the delivery in time because of a concert, the first time he held her was enough to make him burst out crying.
"You guys want to hold her?" Kayden asked, looking to the three who seemed insanely scared of the little bundle of joy
"I think I'll break her" Kai said nervously
"Relax gym rat, you ain't that strong" Haerin chuckled
"She's too tiny...I'm scared" Kira said shaking her head and Jaehyun smiled a little at her nervousness
"We're probably more scary to her though...we're giants" Kai said
"Relax bro, you're not that tall either" Kira said
"I can never win, can I?" Kai sighed, and suddenly the intrusion of voices woke the little girl up from her slumber
"See what you fucking did?!" Kira said, thumping the back of his head
"Quiet guys, I just need to put her back to sleep" Kayden said with a sigh as he rocked her back to sleep but her cries only seemed to get louder
"She's going to wake Emily up every two minutes at this rate" Kayden sighed and Jaehyun felt a sense of pity having been through it all
"Here let me take her for a bit, you guys should get some peace and quiet" Jaehyun said and Kayden looked at him hesitantly, an overprotective dad already
"Are you sure?" He asked and Jaehyun nodded reassuringly
"I've got some experience, don't worry" Jaehyun smiled, and Kayden softly placed the crying baby into his arms. Kira's heart immediately melted at the sight of him holding a newborn in his hands, smiling down at it as he took the baby out of the room to call her down
"Finally" Kayden sighed, turning to his wife that laid peacefully, completely knocked out
"We'll give you two some space" Haerin said, shooing the two frozen twins out of the room and into the waiting room where their eyes fell onto Jaehyun who had calmed the girl in no time. Kira treaded lightly to not make her cry again, sitting down beside him on the chair as her heart tightened in her chest.
"You wanna hold her?" Jaehyun asked, looking to her with a smile and Kira instantly shook her head
"No I'll just hurt her or something—I can't—"
"Oh sure you can" he chuckled
"No dude seriously I...can I?" She asked and Jaehyun smiled, trying his best not to coo at his girlfriend instead of the baby.
"Here, just make sure to support her head...there you go" he said softly, passing the girl to her and she let out a breath she was holding in as the girl rested nicely in her arms.
"Oh my god...oh my god she's...oh my god!" She said in pure shock and Jaehyun planted a kiss to the top of her head, watching her eyes well up with tears as Jenny opened her eyes slowly to look up at her aunt. Kira's breath hitched in her throat as a lump formed, looking back into the big eyes of the baby in her arms.
"Hi...It's me Kira, I'm your auntie...and you don't know a word I'm saying because you're too young to understand me but—I can't do this!" Kira said choking out a cry and shaking her head as she passed her back to Jaehyun
"Baby—"
"No Jae...I can't" she sighed, standing up from her seat and walking towards the big windows, trying to calm herself down. Jaehyun sighed, heart clenching as he almost could feel her pain. He placed the baby in Kai's arms who took even longer than Kira to adjust to her before he walked up to the crying girl.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Jaehyun asked, even though he knew exactly what was wrong.
"I just...It's just dawned on me that I'll like never be able to have this you know...like I'll never be able to give you this" Kira cried with irregular breaths as Jaehyun pulled her closer to him
"And I know you're gonna say that you're happy regardless and you don't need to have this but Jae...I do...I really want this and fuck— god maybe its just my hormones or baby fever or something but I just literally would sell my fucking kidneys for this" She cried and Jaehyun sighed
"I know baby, I know...we can still try—"
"No Jae like...imagine I like...it just doesn't happen for me. And like I spend the rest of my life just wondering about... a whole child that could've been...you know, that could've been mine" She sniffed
"But what are the odds of that happening baby? Is it really that high that we'd be unlucky?" Jaehyun said, trying to reason with her but she only shook her head in despair.
"So so high Jae, I don't even want to give myself the false hope...I feel like throwing up just thinking about it" She mumbled into his chest and he sighed, squeezing her body even harder, letting her cry it out. He felt helpless, knowing there was nothing he could do to stop making her feel this way. She couldn't bring herself to return back to the baby when Jaehyun left to cradle her again as she started crying. It was all too much for her.
