SUNRISE by Ben&Ben

EPILOGUE

"I'm alive, mom, alright? There's no need to worry about. Bye-bye," I said before turning the phone call off.

I sighed as I leaned back against the pillow, finally feeling the ache in my leg since arriving at the clinic. Boredom suddenly nudged me to stand up and take a walk for a while. As I passed the clinic bed where the girl I had saved, I noticed her sleeping with her mouth slightly open. She must have been hurt from the accident.

Halata pa sa pagtulong niyang malikot siya. She was even snoring, with drool starting to trickle down her cheek. I simply shook my head, surprised to find myself already smiling like an idiot as I watched her. Without realizing it, I slapped my own cheek—what was I thinking? I shouldn't be staring at someone while they slept; mapagkamalan pa akong weirdo.

By afternoon, I finally decided to leave the clinic, just as everyone was getting ready to head home. Dos and Tristan approached me as soon as I head out, seems like they were just about to visit me. With their playful expressions, they looked like they had just landed from another planet. Mukha tuloy silang alien. Halatang handa na silang mang-asar.

"Okay lang 'yan, par. Ang mahalaga, nakahuli ka." Tristan tapped my shoulder.

"Mukhang interesado ka, ah. Ang hina mo, ako na nga ang magtatanong ng pangala—"

I quickly blocked Dos with my arm as he tried to sneak into the clinic like I was putting him in a chokehold, especially since he and Tristan were already plotting their mischief. These guys really know how to get on my nerves.

"Tulog 'yong tao, h'wag kayong magulo." I dragged them both as we all went outside the school.

I limped my way back to the boarding house, as if my feet are protesting with every of my step. If Ate Jillian saw me like this, she would definitely report me to Mom since I had not told her about my injury, and I don't plan on telling her about either. For sure, I would be scolded by her instead. And Dad isn't home for this month, he'll be back after three months from USA.

It was already in the evening, I just found myself outside the gate of the boarding house because I was unable to concentrate on my reading thanks to the ruckus and noises from my boardmates—some of them were even drinking. I casted a glance at the structure of the house across the road. Nakabukas pa ang shop nito.

My heart skipped a beat when I spotted the girl inside—she was the one I saved earlier in the afternoon. I observed more and saw that she was just about to close up the shop. I suddenly felt frozen in place, especially when I noticed her gaze darted towards my way. Did she recognize me? Goodness, she was even squinting her eyes, as if trying to see through the distance.

Later on, she closed their shop so I hurried my way inside the boarding house.

"Uhm, Lola Rosana," I called her. She's cleaning in the living room. "Kilala niyo po ba 'yong may-ari ng shop sa tapat?"

"Oo naman, hijo. Bakit mo natanong?"

"Ano pong pangalan no'ng babae roon na maiksi ang buhok, tapos todo kung ngumiti? I guessed she likes skateboard, too. And I think she looks like someone who's easy to get along with. At sa tingin ko po—"

Lola Rosana let out a low chuckle, teasing me, and said, "Madaldal ka palang bata ka. O siya, Ritienzy Lourence Guillermo ang pangalan niya. Mukhang interesado ka."

I almost slapped myself. Kailan pa ako natutong dumaldal nang ganoon? Halatang halata naman ako niyan, e.

I did not beat around the bush anymore as I added her on social media, and she accepted right away—talk about an easy connect. So, ano na ang susunod? Should I slide into her DMs? Kaya lang ano naman ang sasabihin ko? Ang sabi pa naman sa akin ni Dos kanina; kapag interesado ka, mag first move ka.
