Joseta stared at the screen, watching the cursor blink. She had been staring at the files regarding Zeta's gland for two days straight. Giggles and Harpin arrived that morning, so maybe more scans would help. Fives left for Tipoca City to pick up Rex and Echo since they apparently were about to go on some crazy mission.
Her heart clenched at the thought of the captain. She hadn't seen him in so long and she could use some comfort. After losing Zeta, she felt like death walking. She failed to save him. He asked her to perform the surgery and she didn't succeed.
Why the kriff would Zeta torture her past death and make her study this stupid jangular? If only she didn't promise him that she would keep it. Maybe she could become a farmer's wife on Loth and just live a normal life. No. She chose to make a change in her people. She would have to live with the ups and downs of being a medic. She couldn't save everyone. Not even her friends.
"Josie, are you ready for me?" Giggles ask, knocking on the door frame.
"Mhmm, come on in," Joseta said with a nod. She waves at the girl in layered patterns under a lab coat. "Hello, Harpin. It's good to see you again. How is Trentex?"
"He is good," she said, nodding her head as she swiped her long, dark braid over her shoulder. "He is having a good time learning to use the exellite crystals to fix the leak problem."
Joseta recalled him interrupting an important discussion between her and Rex to tell her. "Yeah, he seemed pretty passionate about that."
"What have you found so far?" Harpin asked, leaning on the desk to glance at the screen.
"Dead ends," Joseta muttered, rubbing her eyes. "I know this is the cause of his death, but I don't know why. There are chemicals inside here that I don't understand. I don't know what these hormones are."
"So, what have you done?"
"Scanned Fives, Zeta, and every other clone here on the city." The Proto-Clones DNA didn't show much different to the Batcher's DNA. "They all have the gland and they all have the hormone."
"Does your brother?" Giggles asked, fiddling with a jar of cotton swabs on the other counter.
"No, he has neither the gland or the hormone." Joseta leaned back in her swivel chair, spinning to face Giggles. "I wondered if it was a Mandalorian thing, but from my files I was able to access, there is nothing about this gland."
"It could have been implanted," Harpin stated, turning around to sit on the built-in desk.
"Possibly," Joseta muttered, scrolling through all of the files. "It could also be a mutation from the cloning process."
"Did you get the files of Boba yet?" Giggles asked, walking over to stand beside Harpin, his arms crossed.
"Oh, duh." She clicked a few buttons on her comm and dialed up Shaak Ti. It rang a few times before she answered. "Hello, General."
