Crosshair was acting strange

Crosshair was acting strange. He avoided her anytime they were about to cross paths, and when it was inevitable, he acted more blunt and sour like he had been when they first met. It had taken her two years to tear his walls down and now they were all up again. Possibly because he knew she was keeping something from him. And she was. How could she tell him that she was pregnant? They were in the middle of a war and they could both lose their positions—their lives. But her caution to tell them seemed to have backfired.

Rylann sat on a crate on the ramp of the ship, watching the rain fall on the landing pad on Tipoca City. Things seemed to be escalating in the war. Kenobi was struggling on Umbara, Mandalore was being pressured to choose a side, and so many people had died. If they lose, what did they die for?

Her thoughts drifted to Shaak Ti. Why did she have to die? Why did she have to become 'one with the Force?' Rylann had at least wanted to see her one more time. Even if it was her corpse. It would be closure.

Wiping a tear from her eyes, she hopped off a crate as the Bad Batch approached. Hunter and Tech had returned from their trip to Coruscant after the Death Watch battle in Lo'Retta. So much for trying to make a home there. Everything was shifting. She couldn't stop the turning tides. Now she didn't have a home, so she guessed she'd move back into her room here on Tipoca City.

Wrecker was blabbering to Tech and Hunter as they approached the ship. Crosshair in the back was glaring at the ground, toothpick in mouth. What was wrong with him? She walked over, nodding to them. "Are you ready?"

"Not ready to see Old Tally, but ready to help out," Hunter said with a chuckle. She smiled, glad to see he was moving out of his emo phase. Hopefully, he would not regret the tattoo later.

"I'm not too excited to see her either, but maybe being on the battlefront has changed her," Rylann said, letting the boys go up the ramp. She waited for Crosshair to walk up when she kept up with his pace. "How are you feeling?"

"Fine," he said, rolling his toothpick in his mouth. That was it? Fine?

"Cross, what is going on?" Rylann asked as the ramp closed behind them. She placed her hands on her hips, narrowing her eyes at him. "You can talk to me."

He clenched his jaw, turning away. "Really?" he sneered. "You won't even talk to me."

"It's different," she said, biting her lip. She couldn't tell him until she came up with a plan.

"It's different because you're a Jedi general and I'm a clone," he snapped, walking off.

Tears bit at Rylann's eyes. They'd had their fights, but this was just wrong. What was happening to Crosshair? Why was he acting so differently? Where was the Crosshair she knew to love? The Crosshair she married?
